One I would like to try to watch while tripping, The Little Mermaid. Talking fish, bright swirling colors, and a good soundtrack made when Disney actually made movies worth watching

I can imagine Sprited away would be interesting on shrooms, i watched it while i was really baked, and it was fairly wierd. The huge heads were fucking bizzare.
yeah, waking life would be good, it is a bit 'philopophy 101' though. It's as though the director opened up an introduction to philosophy text book and created a movie about people discussing different arguements chapter by chapter. The animation is incredible though.

Not relavent to the post, but I've been wondering where the balls part came from in the term tripping balls?

I find anything with technicolor is amazing during the peak... i was flipping through channels one night during the peak and every channel i landed on was soldiers being blown up or a stabwound with a blood puddle expanding or just various shades of darkness and my mind started to go into a negative loop and then i thankfully land on a john wayne movie... hahah... i enjoyed watching the duke's face morph exactly like they do in natural born killers but then i noticed the beautiful neon colors of the technicolor background bleeding out of the tv until eventually the entire room consisted purely of technicolor bliss. during a trip i find that the structure and meaning of anything i watch on tv just disappears so i just go for the most visually appealing...
Has anyone seen Altered States?! Dear god... people need to watch this... it's about a scientist doing experiments with isolation chambers and eventually he starts combining mushrooms with the isolation chamber and his trips externalize themselves... YOU MUST WATCH THIS MOVIE. I COMMAND YOU. The trip sequences are so lush and creamy and juicy and good... My mind explodes with psychedelic energy if i watch one of the sequences during a trip... i cannot stress the importance of watching this film. A must see for any psychonaut.

Indeed I have. I agree it a must-see film very loosely based on Dr. John C. Lilly's pioneering work with the sensory deprivation tank which he invented. Inspired me to purchase my own tank. Love the scenes where he goes to Mexico to get shrooms from the natives. Btw, Lilly is also the inspiration of another film, Day of the Dolphin, which I haven't seen.
My list:
1) Dreams. Directed by Akira Kurosawa. Very surreal, calming.
2) The Matrix
3) Lair of the White Worm. Based upon Dracula author Bram Stoker's novel. Filmed in Scotland. Something of a horror (non-gory) film, but very unique in its style in every respect. TheSlapnCapn, if you liked the trippy sequences in Altered States you'll love the ones in this movie!
4) Edward Scissorhands
5) Network. A classic from the 70's with a great cast, incredible dialogue, and plot. Still relevant after all this time.. "I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it anymore!!!"

Ever heard the oysterhead song "oz is ever floating" ? I thought that perhaps dr. john c. lilly was just another fictional name claypool had made up. Thank you. You've given me another interesting topic to read up on.
Also someone asked where the "balls" came from in the term "tripping balls"... the answer to this i do not know but one night whilst walking around town tripping with a couple mates, we found the trip to be a bit light so we coined the term tripping walnuts... feel free to use...

One of my friends has a term he uses when smoking a whoole lot of pot, which is FBS: Floating Balls Syndrome (it's the "light" feeling you get in your balls after smoking a lot)
And something else topic-related.
There is a movie theater where I live that has a thing they call Weird Wednesday, where they show free wacked out movies at midnight. 2 days ago a huge group of friends and I went and watched this 70's 3d porn!!! they had 3D glasses for everyone for $1. It was quite an odd movie, and not really that much sex (more just nudity). anyone, what I REALLY wanted to mention, was that they showed a commercial for upcoming Weird Wednesday films, and they are going to show, get this,
THE WIZARD OF OZ WITH THE PINK FLOYD ALBUM DUBBED OVER IT!!!!
I don't know if anyone else has already done this, like in your house, (i have never seen it done) but to be able to see it in a movie theater, at midnight? that's badass. They also show regular movies at this theater too, and soon they will be bringing Don Hertzfeldt's Animation festival. Thats gauranteed to be awesome. If you haven't seen the Don Hertsfeldt's short movie (about 9 and 1/ minutes) called 'Rejected' then you really need to see it. Go download on kazaa or whatever.
I'm thinking I might try and make that Wizard of Oz/Pink floyd showing my first experience with HBWR. Anyone think its a good idea?

Fear and Loathing -excellent trip movie (one of the best imo) depps performance is incredible as Hunter S. Thompson
Fritz the Cat - Crumb the cartoonist came up with this character in the 60's... great fun, and the old style of cartoon is pretty psychadelic @ times (havent watched trippin but i imagine to be a great trip flick)
Magical Mystery Tour - my fave Beatles movie so far
Pulse - Pink Floyd movie, if you are a pink floyd fan, this Live concert is very keen, the visual effects are incredible try to watch it on a big screen, and dark as possible

Ok, these list has more then 5 movies, but i coudnt decide, wich are the top 5 of these :
-Fantastic Planet -PI -The holy Mountain -Begotten (probably the wierdest movie ever made ) -Baraka -Aeon Flux -Dead Man (Fantastic to watch, while you wait for the shrooms to kick in,the movie develops from a normal movie to a more and more bizzare plot of spiritual enlightenment) -Tetsuo Ironman (Tetsuo Bodyhammer gave me bad vibes btw) -Fear and loathing is Las Vegas -Clerks -Heavy Metal 2000 + original -Koyaanisqatsi -Spun -Where the Buffalo Roam -The Acid House -Animatrix -Human Traffic

I watched that when I was high. That movie sucked. I'd give my left nut to get up with Baby though. That's Rob Zombie's wife, that lucky son of a bitch.

* "Trainspotting" is fucking great!! My first time for this was on acid, and it was very cool. (but yes the baby was rough) * Also great is "Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas." * If you are a Floyd fan you cant miss with "The Wall" * And if you are a Floyd fanatic "Dark side of oz" (wizard of oz with Dark Side Of The Moon.) start cd at the 3rd roar of the mgm lion, and let cd repeat throughout. * Live concerts are great also.
Stay away from any movie by "David Lynch" (Mulholland Drive, Twin Peaks, Lost Highway) They scare the shit out of me sober. (And i love it !!!)
