Not becoming emotionally connected to your pet is a very hard thing. I had a dog when I was eight or nine. His name was Rikker (yes, after the Sgt.). I loved him more than anything and spent a lot of time in the yard chasing him around. We had a half acre with invisible fencing so he could be as free as a captive could be. He was a very tense dog. He died \because the fuckin dog hair cutter could not control him and had to give him a sedative which sedated his heart. My grandma spilled the news on accident on my way to tennis practice, my parents werent going to tell us till dinner. I did not want to practice, I felt real bad. As time went on, I forgot about him as much as I could. The dog was only five. Years later we got a new dog. It was not the same and I never expect it to be again. I sometimes mistakenly call my new dog "Rikker," and this always brings a tear to my eye.

Im sure the bunny's life with you was 10x better then what he would of gotten at the petstore.

I had a little bunny when i was litttle, petey. Nice fat rabbit she was chill. We let it run aroundthe basement. It had some problems with chewing on stuff but she was cool. Litter trained and all.

My neighbor had a huge dog. It lived to 21, it was like 2x what most dogs like that live.

i have a bunny named bunny ...shes the best, we let her run around our yard and inside our house, shes like a little dog. i think its bad when people keep wild animals as pets..but i know my little bunny loves me and my family as much as we love her...when you see an animal, you can usually tell if their happy or not...i think a lot of pets are happy with a family that loves and takes care of them. in conclusion, dont feel bad..im sure herbie liked living with you more than in a dirty pet store.

I know exactly how you feel. My situation is probably more a tragedy than yours though, because I did what I did at what should have been a responsible age and because of drugs. A couple of years ago, I brokw up with my ex fiance who I was living with. During the break up he told me that he was keeping Joanie and ChaChi, my two ferrets. I told him that was fine and secretly felt quite relieved because I would no longer have to care for them, something that seemed to get in the way of my party time. I loved those animals so much when I got them and got so much pleasure from being around them. Now that I don't do drugs, I feel that what I did is one of the most shameful things I've done in my whole life. Anyway, I guess all that can be said is 'Live and learn'.

As for you, I think you shouldn't fret over what happened, especially since you were young.

This statement is very true, and even if your rabbit had gotten away from you.. depending on where you live, his chances of survival are much less than the happy house he had with you.
