Ready to plant loph seeds, quick question about cold temps

One of my lophs just recently fruited and I managed to get 6 seeds out of the fruit. I would like to place them in small pots covered with saran wrap outside to begin germination, but I'm slightly concerned about the temps at night. What is the lowest temp loph seeds can withstand while in the process of germinating? Right now I believe temps get around 45F at night on the coldest nights. Is this too cold for them to germinate? Thanks in advance.

45F may be a little too cold for them. They may still germinate albeit very slowly
Can you not germinate them on a windowsill inside? The temperatures would be a little more stable I would think. I wouldn't want the temps to dip below 68F when germinating loph seeds.

Why keep them outside? I set mine on a windowsill and they germinated in about 4 days and this windowsill probably hits 60 degrees at it's lowest.
You should try a glad bag instead of Saran wrap, it keeps the humidity up and allows droplets to roll to the side rather than on top of your sensitive baby cacti.

Points taken gentlemen. I do have a very good spot to put them inside along the windowsill. So that's what I shall do tomorrow. Thank you both! If I get even one out of the 6 to sprout, I'll feel it was all worth it.

Since you got them real fresh from a fruit you should have no problem getting one. In fact, I wouldn't bee to suprosed if all six of em germinated.

Sounds good. I'd definitely keep them inside for awhile. You can put them outside when it warms up in your area, but to be honest you may have better luck keeping them in a windowsill until they're somewhat devoleped. You'll know whether to put them outside or not once they start developing since cacti are good at letting you know when they're getting too much light.

No sign of life yet, but it's only been 6 days so far. I'll snap some pics if any green shows up. For the growing medium I used what I had on hand - Miracle Grow Cactus Mix and some perlite. The soil was misted to the point where it was damp enough to still handle easily, but not so wet that it was glistening with water droplets. Hopefully I didn't fuck anything up. I really want to start some lophs from seed and watch them slowly mature over the years. If I did manage to screw the process up, I'm sure my baby will fruit again and give me another chance after learning from my mistakes.

I'd be surprised if none sprout. You should see life in the next week.

Things aren't look too great here. There is what appears to be mold that looks like tiny spider webs strewn across all 3 cups that have seedlings in them. I microwaved the medium before planting the seeds in it to try and avoid this but I guess it didn't help. Anything I can do about it or am I screwed until my loph fruits again?

I had the same problem initially, but a targeted application of Hydrogen Peroxide took care of it. I was careful to not get it on any of the tender seedlings( to be honest I'm not sure if they could take it or not, if you were going to spray the whole thing you might want to dilute it a little) via use of some eyedroppers.
So a quick, targeted application should take care of it without hurting your seedlings. Also, once you apply it, make sure you give plenty of FAE to make sure the mold doesn't come back.
Any other problems just let me know and I'd be happy to help.

Just introduce fresh air and the cobweb mould will disappear. Leave the lid off until it disappears. Once it goes you can replace the lid or whatever you're using but you should vent at least once a day to prevent it from returning.

Ok right now I took advice and placed the 3 cups inside a gallon ziploc bag to prevent water droplets from dropping onto the soil below. I'll leave the bag open overnight and see what the situation looks like in the morning. I assume this means I'll need to lightly mist the soil again in the morning since a lot of moisture will have evaporated. Thanks so much, hoping I'll see something sprout soon.

I personally mist the inside of the bags too, helps keep the soil from drying out too quickly. If you mist the inside of the bags like a suggest then you can change the air out more frequently without a significant drop in humidity.
On a side note, the gallon bags are probably too big. I use large sandwich bags for my humidty tents because they're easy to secure to cups with rubber bands.

Good idea with the sandwich bags. I'll get that done when I wake up in the morning. I'm hoping airing them out overnight will take care of the mold. Thanks as always, appreciate the tips and advice. If I ever get any to sprout I'll take some pics.

Cobweb mold is still there and the growing medium is beginning to look a little dry. I'm guessing it should remain dry until the mold disappears? Basically, wondering how long they can go without more moisture being added again.

not very much time if they just came out of seeds. on the other hand hyphae can endure much longer, so better take care of the mold with a fungicide diluted to 1/2 or 1/4 its suggested strength.

They haven't sprouted yet as far as I can tell. I don't have any fungicide handy so I'll try using a q-tip with a little hydrogen peroxide I guess. Thanks

if they haven't sprouted yet why not move them to another substrate or sterilize yours in the oven, let it cool, wet it and place same seeds again?

Cc that's a great idea but unfortunately the seeds are so tiny, I can't locate them in the growing medium anymore. I placed them on top of the soil then sprinkled a light layer of extra soil on top of them and they are impossible to spot now. That's a great suggestion though.

they need light to germinate, you should have not covered them!
take a q-tip or toothpick and locate them. they won't germinate if they don't receive light anyway.
