obviously a contam of some kind... anyone have any experience with this one? can the myc overcome it? safe to spawn if it does fight it off or better off tossing them?
thanks for the input

Hm, looks like yeast infection, although yeast is usually white dots... IME mycelium often defeats yeast, and it effects only grains (as far as I know), so you could spawn it, I don't think it would cause much damage. But wait for confirmation, don't take my word for it.

Weird. If it was white, i'd say yeast. But pink, I'm not so sure.
Edit: Tangich beat me to it.

thx for the thoughts guys! much appreciated
the better-safe-than-sorry guru is telling me to dump them, but that other, risky character is urging otherwise.

I have successfully spawned yeasty grains in the past... Not a practice I'd really recommend, but those were my only cultures of certain species and I had no choice. The yeast never showed in the final substrate. Leave them to fully colonize and see if the mycelium will cover the yeasts.

Mycelium is definitely eating through (or around?) this stuff...
to spawn or not to spawn it knowing potential evil critters are in there...?

I say give it a go. You'll know for sure 7-10 days after spawning it!

thanks for the input on this everyone!
I wish it was warmer out, so that if these failed I could attempt an outdoor project; I don't want these near the other experiments that I know are clean, and I don't have the incubating/fruiting space at the moment. Dilemmas!
I've read storing in a fridge is a relatively safe delaying method for spawn. is this still good info?

Definitely keeping them! Thx!
I've got word from some experienced growers that they will fruit without any problems, then I can print/clone and start over with them, but grain to grain is out of the question.

just wanted to update on this... these all colonized like nothing else was in there go mycelium!
anyway, they are finishing up taking over the jars, and they'll be going in the fridge until I have some more room to spawn.
thx for the thoughts and support all!

alittle thing i like to do, once fully colonized, give the jars a shake...if there is still any trace of the contaminant there, then when you shake it'll show itself with in a day or two...

Biologys, knowing your history with the mighty survivor sprouts, I'm glad you were the most-recent to reply in this thread! A tribute to you and your success!
Day 1 of fruiting. Our little friend has been visible for 4 days.

will update again soon!

Victory! A meager flush, but it's better than nothing! We'll see if the second proves larger.
