Found this little cactus at the garden shop, what kind do you think she is? Opinions on the flower?

Will it make seeds? I don't know the first thing about cactus, are they self-fertilizing?

Awesome. Cactus babies!
Some quick googling tells me this is false-IDed for peyote all the time, so I'm glad I'm not an obvious fool. I mean, I didn't think it was one. But it might have been.

wow, you really know a lot about cactus. i wouldn't be able to tell what that was from far away, and honestly from far away it does look like peyote
but i don't really know to be honest

The first signs are the huge red flower, unlike that of peyote, and also this one has spines, sometimes. Also by that size, you could expect a peyote to be quite woolly.

not to mention peyote is soft to the touch. my peyotes are all pretty small and have no claw-like spines at the areole.
Matucana are hard as rocks almost to the touch, and although when tiny they resemble peyote almost to the exact, when they are bigger the lack of tufts and the addition of curved spines are a dead giveaway. Also peyote does put off big pinkish blooms but matucana madinosorium's blooms are dark red and enourmous by comparison. I grow both at home and my matucana blooms year round many times. my peyotes only blooom once a year.

i see.
i guess same with peruvianus and san pedro. when small they look identical, but when larger, one has a darker colored skin. although to be honest the skin color can vary on both of them depending on sunlight, when larger the spins are way different, and the curvature of the columns seems different, peruvianus is very roundish along the edges, although san pedro can also be, there seems to be a concaveness between the spins on san pedro. also san pedro seems to make a hexagonal shape with it's columns, i think peruvian torch is pretty much always even.
i guess cactus all really looks the same except to the eye of the expert
