Share your shoplifting stories and techniques.
I'm not too big on shoplifting but I will occasionally pocket small time shit like candy or keychains from the mall. Fuck the law.
One time I paid for my shit at Target, then walked back and grabbed a huge lamp and walked out with it. The key is to act totally normal and pretend you're talking on your cell phone. Nobody will interrupt a man who is on his cell phone.
I heard when your Xbox 360 breaks you can just buy a new one at Walmart, rip the serial sticker off it and slap it on your old one and go return it for a full refund. I haven't done this myself but I hear it works great.

Once I caught someone trying to shoplift a sandwich from my store. They stuffed it in a fountain soda cup and tried to act like they were just getting a refill.
A different time I caught the neighborhood kids taking candy and jerky. They would have one kid distract the clerk while the others stole my product.
Personally, I don't shoplift.

Done it a few times as a kid and later in life when drunk. Its pretty easy to get away with and to get caught cuz you never know when someone is spying on you or when they have hidden a camera / security tag.
I always had enough money I just did it for the buzz when I did do it. Makes ya feel alive when you are feeling mundane.
I got a bottle of expensive wine last time and just stuck it down my pants and walked out the shop blatent as hell Turns out it tasted like shit. Glad I didnt pay for it I know generally people hate on thieves but TBH i couldn't give a fuck about it because the whole monetary system is built on theft and corruption just depends how devious you want to be about it. The rest of us are mugs or wage slaves or dying in some country while the leader rips everyone off and the west rips them off.
Stealing from friends or family however is low as shit - hate people that do that.
P.S in before the lock

I've stolen countless cans of beer from the local rite aid simply by putting them down my pants. Sometimes I buy some candy or something at the register too just not to look conspicuous

I don't normally shop lift but rite aid is pretty clueless... I was high as balls one day and picked up a big bag of candy and just walked out of the store with it in hand, completely forgetting to pay or anything and no one even noticed

In a pub here once I paid for an all you can eat meal and took a humble helping on the condition I could come back for more - when I came back they wouldn't let me have anymore of the food even though they were just gonna throw it away
So I waited until the bar guy went out the back then hopped over and grabbed a full bottle of tequila. Then I hopped back over, finished my pint and left with my free tequila

LOL your whole country is based on theft.
Your fed reserve has been creaming off your money ever since day 1 and the military is supporting theft of resouces from 3rd world countries and the world bank has been robbing them blind as well.
Just watch the news - the bankers rob you daily and then turn round to your face and say fuck you we dunno where the money is.
The whole fuckin system is corrupt and everyone steals from each other - that what happens when your monetery system is a giant ponzi scheme.
The people at the top are exactly the same as the people at the bottom - in the words of david rockefella "you look after your friends and family, fuck everybody else" and when he says fuck he means hes robbing them blind.

I don't steal shit anymore, it was kinda childish and not worth the risk not to mention ethics. But it's a corporation so who cares right? This is the story of the only time I ever stole anything:
One time me and a friend went to Macy's with the intention of stealing clothes for a "Heaven and Hell" party (since we didnt have any money).
basically he wore a backpack in and I went into the changing room before him and left the stuff I wanted in there, then he followed me with a couple things and stuffed everything into the backpack. While we're doing all this I notice a guy who looks too weird/shady to be hanging out in the Boulder, CO Macy's. But I disregard him.
Then as we're walking out the door he comes out behind us and whips out a badge.
"HOLD ON GUYS! I'm with Macy's "Loss Prevention Department" and I found some tags in the dressing rooms and the merchendise is now missing. Care to explain that?" "No." "Well I'm just a little confused because the stuff was there before you guys came in, and I saw it go into the changing room, but it didn't come out. Then I went and looked for it and all I found was the tags." "Are you insinuating that we stole something?" "Well it's just kind of suspicious, you know?" "Yeah, it is. But it wasnt us." "Okay well I'm gunna go check the security tapes." "You do that."
10 minutes later cruisers were on the street looking for us we just stayed out of sight and never got caught

Last time I shoplifted something I was 11 and took a pack of certs from a (family owned) corner store. Felt so guilty afterward that I finally ended up going back like a year later and leaving a couple bucks on the counter
However, a few years ago I was in knoxville walking around the city exploring with a few friends and a local dude we had met. We wandered into this huge old movie theater, explored nearly the entire place, backrooms and all, without seeing any staff. Even sat in on some old Shirley Temple movie for like 20 minutes . Eventually we came upon an unattended bar. Grabbed a handle of jack daniels and ran like hell. I'd do it again, that was a blast

I stole countless times as a child. Now I only will target large corporations or companies that are excessively greedy, never humble people. I find it hard to target the guy at the connivence store; ever talk to them? Not only do they seem humble, often the margins on profit aren't that good. Seems hard to steal in a store, risk is too high with not enough reward.
For instance cigarettes they barely make any money off. Unfortunately / fortunately I enjoy smoking at this point, even though California try's to almost make it illegal. I appreciate the 2 local stores where I can buy smokes, because I know for a fact that even if I order it online, unless they are from Russia or something, they aren't really any cheaper and at least they are fresh from the store too.
You might as well go all out stealing; print out lotto tickets, home depot receipts, manufacture credit cards; as you can make way more money that way and if your smart never get caught. Or work for a company and steal from behind their back; but eventually you might get caught, it's addictive slightly.
I'd argue this thread and the psychology of theft in the USA, is strictly based on super competitiveness. 10% or less of the USA is ultra rich. I suppose they must run the ultra large corporations? The companies that in some ways are evil and some ways ok.
Medical Companies, sure wish the focus was on curing and preventing disease, instead of curing it (obviously more money to cure and treat it, eh?).
Car Companies, man for the price of a car and Gasoline, I'm pretty sure we could just make our own car company, using environmental as possible energy solution, materials and lowest cost humanly and mechanically possible; even for a nice car =).
Huge Retail Companies (Home Depot, Costco, etc.) I find the smaller ones to have just as good prices as the ridiculously huge chains. Every notice how Ace Hardware has just as good stuff as Home Depot? Smart and Final has just as good, if not better deals then Costco. Honestly in business a smaller business focused directly on a market segment typically performs better then king commando. Also these ultra large business chains wipe out small businesses.
Border Books, Amazon, Barnes, Noble, Starbucks So much for the independent book store & coffee shop huh? At least some survive, or at least we have a library to donate books too in the event the independent book store dies (sad but possibly true in the near future).
What about the Military? Those boys need no introduction, and whoever is in the white house who is owned by them spending way more then is required to build those anarchy machines is just ridiculous altogether.
I'd go on but that is more then enough. I guess keep on stealing for know. We can do our best later to dismantle the pigs; Which I thought we had anti corporation laws to protect against this, but I guess who cares about the law? Why don't we just not care about the laws as well since they obvious do not mean ANYTHING!

I used to steal. All sorts of shit. Then I started stealing from stores. Then I got very very cocky and stupid about it. Then I got caught.
Now I am on 5 years probation and living back at home unable to get a job. I pretty much fucked up the course of my life all for shit I did not need.
But I learned some valuable life lessons, and some real good came out of it, but still fucking sucks. Thankfully I avoided jail time and just got probation.

Hey man, I'm not poppin on americans - the fed is owned by mostly european descent people but really we need to drop the boundaries because it doesn't matter where they are from. Its a global one world pyramid scheme now.
My main point is that theft is a result of a system built on theft.
If we built the system differently there wouldn't need to be any theft at all. The venus project has proposed ways of building societies where ownership is equal and shared but people don't accept that. The call em commies or whatever label they wanna stick on it... end of the day theft is a result of a corrupt environment.
IMO we could build a system without ownership even where we share stuff equally but our human greed and desire to control has not (yet) let us set it up differently.

Exactly.
Supporting the theft of third world resources while they starve to death to continue the wests massive consumption is apparently OK then? lol People against stealing need to look at the big picture - if they are really against it then you better change your whole lifestyle because we are all benefiting from a system built on theft.

I could have benefited from a little jail time to let it sink in. They wanted to send me away for a year which I think was a little harsh - only a good public defender kept me out. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.
It just amazes me at some the stupid sentences they hand out for crimes, some little crimes get a bunch of jail time and murderers get out in a few years.

this I agree with. it just pisses me off when I bust my ass working a low-paying labor job all day and some douche doesn't have the self-discipline to make a dollar by himself . or when I get stolen from (TAXES). I don't have as much of a problem with stealing from big evil corporations, but I'd rather not steal from anyone and instead fend for myself by myself. and I think a work ethic is a valuable thing to have. IME hard work pays off.

I steal from retail giants all the time, but it's usually just dumb shit that's easy to steal because I love the rush.
Usually when I do, I have enough money so I can say I fully intended on paying for it, I just forgot that it was in my pocket.

Yup. These fools can sit in their comfortable chairs behind their computers and badmouth us shoplifters all they want, but when it comes to making real changes to stop all the fucked up shit going on all around us they won't. Why? because it's too inconvenient. I will speak out and defend the underdog who's getting screwed, the poor third world countries getting exploited from the comfort of my bedroom, but will I step out of my comfortable existence to really lend a hand? Hell no.
We're all immoral. Once we know of an injustice out there, we are morally committed to stopping it. So fuck y'all.

In my teens i used to shop lift a lot to swap my goods for hash and weed.
The main target was big department stores and womens fancy make-up products was the best steal, mostly for size and value, we used to get 50% of what ever the price ticket was from this girl who sold smoke.
The technique
You have one shopping bag and in that bag you would put a paper bag inside lined with foil, then put a t-shirt or something similar in the bottom of the bag so it does not look empty,. Then just walk around the stores browsing like a regular shopper.
Anything that was to be stolen we'd take 2 of the items from the shelf and after a quick examination put 1 item back on the shelf and slight of hand transfer one item into the bag hand, as you put the other back on the shelf you move your bag hand back to by your side then drop the passed item straight into the bag below. The foil lining inside the bag used to stop the tags from setting off the door alarms(I don't know if it still would this was 20 years ago).
We used to go store to store and make a day of it, between 2 of us we'd pull in around £200 shop value of exotic makeup and costume trinket style jewelery and for every £100 worth we used to do a straight swap for an ounce of hash or a half oz of weed.

Stole 5$ when I was 7 years old.
My dad found out about it.
Never stole again... lesson learned.
Although I would totally be up to it. Sometimes when the opportunity arises I think to myself... god damm, I could totally take this and noone would know. Be meh.
If I steal, I'm gonna rob a bank. Nothing less.

We used to go store to store and make a day of it, between 2 of us we'd pull in around £200 shop value of exotic makeup and costume trinket style jewelery and for every £100 worth we used to do a straight swap for an ounce of hash or a half oz of weed.
Wonder if the foil trick would work now... If not foil, I'm sure there's SOMETHING you could use to achieve the same effect...

To the people who think it's okay to steal from "faceless" corporations: if you ever own a company, would you be fine with people stealing from you? If not then you're a complete hypocrite.
