question on pasteurizing

i found myself in possession of a large plastic container, and i would like to grow some amazons on some straw in a monotub. i've looked into it and i've seen that the straw should be pasteurized so that there is only "good" bacteria left. the temperatures to pasteurize seem to be too low to kill off all of the contamination that may be lingering in the straw. would there be any downside to simply sterilizing the straw? other than the myc. not having the benefit of the good bacteria? and for that matter could i just add yeast to the straw to have the myc. have a benefit of good bacteria?
in the past i have had issues with contamination with pasteurizing things, but whenever i pressure cook anything there never seems to be an issue.
this would be my first time using a monotub.

well, i checked it out some more and apparently the good bacteria takes over so you don't have to worry about contams anymore. anyone have any advice on how to make sure the straw is truely pasteurized? that way i dont have to worry about contams? i really think that its just asking for a contamination outbreak and then the whole thing would just be for nothing.

same as any other properly pasteurized substrate
I do a warm soapy water rinse, then soak for about 6 hours in warm water, rinse real well, then get to field capacity, then load into bags and bring the temp upto 140 degree's and keep it between 140-160 for a hour.

if i wait a few days to see if anything colonizes, then cook it if anything pops up will that be okay? or will i be killing off good bacteria? i remember reading something about steam sterilizing by steaming BRF jars for 1 hour and waiting 2 days, then steaming it again, and waiting 2 days, and then steaming it for a final time to make sure everything is dead, but if i kept it at the correct temp i would imagine it wouldn't kill the good bacteria. any ideas? thanks for the response i'll do what you said.

Have a look at and follow RR's straw pasteurization tek.
You don't want to sterilize straw to be used as a bulk substrate for a monotub.
Unless the straw's to be colonized in a sterile environment, pasteurize straw for use as a bulk substrate in a monotub.
Because straw dries out quickly, it's best to utilize straw as bulk substrate in humid climates or during humid months of the year.

What you read is non-sense.
BRF jars are ready to inoculate after being steam sterilized once for 90 minutes or PC'd at 15 psi for an hour, then let to cool to room temperatures before inoculation.
