Oh man, terrible tooth pain

My left lower back molar is FUCKED. Tried everything OTC under the sun and at best advil dulled the pain enough for me to get a little over an hour tonight.
Fortunately the dentist closest to me does emergency appointments so I got one for 10am. Longest 1 1/2 hours of my life I bet. Probably gonna have to get it pulled, but at this point I don't give a fuck.
Also, I've been trying the sobriety thing lately, but if this fucker doesn't stop hurting I'm at least gonna get some percocet 7.5's. If that happens I'll call my sponsor and have someone hold onto the script so I'm not tempted to abuse them.
Fuck this hurts, and my stomach is all fucked up from all the Advil, Tylenol, Motrin and Aleeve I've been taking. Man this is worse pain (or definitely more annoying) than when I broke my hand a few months ago. At least then I was able to get some sleep.
Wish me luck. Fuck, gotta get something to eat but I'm afraid I'll puke or cause more pain. Feeling all cracked out from lack of sleep the past few nights. Might have to stop by McDonalds (I don't eat fast food at all) for some soft chicken nuggets just to get something in my stomach.

Teeth are annoying. The fuckers always caused me trouble. Both my lower back molars are full of composite, one because it chipped and the other because it had a huge cavity.
When I was little, even my baby teeth were fucked. My dentist said she didn't wanna pull them because my real teeth weren't gonna grow for a while, and a hole in my mouth would deform it or w/e, so I got two root canals at the age of six. I also had braces and tons of regular cavities.
Don't even get me started on wisdom teeth.

Ya, Ive got one wisdom tooth coming in crooked on my right upper side. It's at like a 45 degree angle so that's gotta be taken care of soon.
Ive broken lots of teeth, most of the time they don't hurt. But this one feels like someone taking a screwdriver and prying it sideways.

i see where you're getting at now. i took a few natural health classes back in college and did a lengthy paper on all the negative stuff that comes with fluoride consumption. i am aware chicka, but i'm still glad i had them. because it's not a dozen dental fluoride treatments that cause issues, it is the excess, prolonged intake we receive from tap water and toothpaste use that brings about some bad stuff. there's a lot of stuff we ingest on a day to day basis with negative effects, but it's tough to avoid it all

drinking fluoride is not healthy and has been proven to do fuck all for your teeth, Fluoride works well as a anti cavity agent if you do not swallow and only let it hit your teeth and spit it out (such as fluoride mouthwashes + toothpastes)
- Shitty deal OP, If its hurtin like that you are guarenteed to need to get it pulled or root canal, Good luck bro it sucks balls.

I will definitely keep that in mind. I get dentist check ups every 6 months but I don't think flouride was one of the things they use. Mostly just mind altering x-rays. haha just kidding

i for one LOVE my Pineal Gland, and DO NOT want it calcified by fluoride

Fluoridated water has been proven to reduce the incidence of caries, particularly in groups of lower social and economic stanidng who cannot afford/do not choose to buy fluoridated tooth paste.
Water fluoridation at the levels recommended can AT WORSE cause MILD dental fluorosis which anyone apart from your dentist isn't going to notice. The kind of claims made by the anti fluoridation are ridiculous. I give you the example of the "fluoridation causes cancer" argument. There was no evidence that it could but because it was made and reported widely in the media, the pro-fluoridation groups have to piss off and conduct long term studies just to prove that it's safe. Can you see any links between how the anti-fluoridation groups work and how the anti-drug groups work?
As for you ellenallien. Why not look up how eating causes cancer or how MDMA makes you think you are an orange. Very few of these sites have any real evidence for their claims or have shitty papers to back them up (think the MMR vaccine scare)

Just got back. Went ahead and had the tooth pulled. The doc said it was possible to save it, but it would be about 6x as expensive as pulling it.
He was really good, had that thing out before was really able to enjoy the nitrous. Did get perc 7.5's. Just took 1.
The only part that sucks is its still bleeding a bit (not nearly as bad as before). I swallowed so much blood in the walgreens parking lot waiting for the script to be filled, I puked all over the parking lot.
So hungry now, but I can't eat anything for a while.

I was out of the dentist close to 2 hours ago. GJ reading the threads dude. Not exactly Mr. Current Events are we now?
I kid I kid. It's looking like the bleeding has almost stopped and that one 7.5 got me really high and itchy as hell. I have a VERY low tolerance to opiates, nothing in my stomach and already had 1mg Klonopin and .5mg Xanax in me, so it hit me pretty hard.
I just can't wait to eat. I went to sonic and got a bunch of tater tots (they're delicious) to have something soft to eat, so I'm waiting till I can pull the cotton pads out and get something besides opiates in my stomach.

Oh and does anyone know the duration of Novocaine? I still can't feel the entire left side of my face, from the top of my head all the way down my neck a bit. I think the doc went a little overboard on it cause he was expecting the tooth to explode and have to dig out dozens of little chunks.
Instead it came out in one piece in like 2 minutes. I hate to lose a tooth, but I'm already needing to have my parents help me out with the bill. I couldn't imagine asking them for money if the bill was higher. It was like $380 for the whole deal.
$54 for like 15-20 minutes of Nitrous.... Fuck that, next time I'll just bring my own.
Doc was REALLY good though. Expensive yes, but man was he good. I just wish I had dental insurance.

Generally about 4-5 hours, from my experience. I had a tooth yanked last summer, which came out in 3 pieces. I had an oral surgeon do it, so he was pretty good. Hardly any pain.

I don't think they were planning on giving me anything for pain. I had to ask for Percocet since Vicodin sometimes makes me violently nauseous. I was a bit surprised when they gave me 7.5/500's instead of just 5mg's. Not too crazy about the 500mg APAP, but it is what it is.
I'm not going to be taking more than 2-4 of these a day anyways. Only for pain, I don't do the whole abuse game anymore (except for a few slip ups with alcohol) for the past 3 months.
Plus, abusing opiates for me isn't much fun. It's like a 20 minute awesome rush followed by 5 hours of intense itching and nausea. Unless I have phenergan, which greatly reduces the nausea and itchies, while at the same time increasing the sedation.

Like I said, it bothered me more than when I broke my hand (5th Metacarpal, right under my pinky knuckle). I think all in all I only got about 45min-1hr of sleep last night.
Fuck, my cheek itches, but its still numb from the Novocaine so I can't seem to scratch it. Weird.

I've got a lot more work that needs to be done. Had a few root canals done over the years and apparently I had a bad habit of getting the temporary filling and then never had them do anything permanent like a crown.
SoOoOo.... learn from me, don't do that. I've had teeth crack while eating toast one time.

Tried it. Shit only lasts for like 5 min and since it was a back molar and I didnt have the orajel swabs (they work much better cause you can hold it right on the area you want it).
So I was up all night watching tv and went through almost a full bottle of that shit. I had to use q tips to get it to where it needed to go.
And man, I'll never forget the coconut taste.

Ok, I'm about to go to the store in a little bit. Just realized there's barely anything edible in this house that is a good idea for someone with a gaping hole in their mouth.
Just starting the list. Can I get some good ideas?

Alright, how long should I wait before smoking a cigarette? It's been since like 9am, which is 8 1/2 hours since I've had one and I'm starting to jones.
Last time I had a tooth pulled, I wasn't a smoker, although I did smoke weed. So I rolled a really loose joint and pulled very lightly on it. Had to smoke weed, the Vicodin they gave me made me so god damn sick to my stomach I thought the vomiting was going to dislodge the clot.
Gonna try to wait another hour or two. It stopped bleeding hour ago and I've been eating food (very carefully). I figure if I chop a filter off a cig and pull lightly I'll be alright.

Ok, this shit is still bleeding. Woke up with a bunch of blood in my mouth and every time I spit there was a bit of blood in it.
Called the dentist and they told me to put a wet tea bag on it and bite down. Unfortunately all I have is the jumbo tea bags that are like 3x the size of regular ones, so it hurts quite bad.
Hopefully this fucker stops smoking. I haven't had a cigarette in like 30 hours. FUCK.

i had a broke molar about a year ago, the nerve was exposed. i had just had back surgery so, i had major oxy, vikes, i didnt have dental ins, so i took about 5 shots of rum, 4 oxy, a plastic tooth pick (ones with floss) mixed antibiotic and water, shoved the pick down my gum all around it, took couple more shots of rum, and pulled that fuckin thing out. packed it with more antibiotic and a cotton-ball. 100% better the next day. except for my cheek, i slipped couple times.

Heh, when I broke my hand a few months ago I started trying to tear the cast off by the end of the first week. So claustrophobic. I was at my parents at the time and my dad has one of those Dremel Multi-Max oscillating tools that's very similar to what they use at the orthopedics office to cut casts off (you can put the blade up to your hand with it on without it cutting you). Fortunately my dad caught me in the garage starting to cut through it and stopped me.
It was only on for 3 weeks but I'd have these moments of sheer uncomfortable freak outs where I wanted to drive it through a wall or cut it off with a steak knife. The splint before the cast was WAY worse, I was re wrapping it like 10-15 times a day, trying to make it more comfortable. Too tight and I'd freak out, but too loose and it let the splint (conformed to the side of my hand) slip out of place and it hurt like a bitch.
Also when I was 16 and pretty badly injured my back while wakeboarding, the doctor gave me a back brace to wear to immobilize the part to hopefully keep pressure off the damaged discs and vertebrae. Well that didn't go over too well. I wore it out into the parking lot before I had my first ever panic attack due to being extremely claustrophobic and locked into something that didn't allow me any movement of my back at all. I think my total time wearing it before hiding it in the attic so my parents couldn't force me to wear it (I told them I threw it away) was a little over 24 hours. The only thing that sucks about it was that my parents forgot to get it pre approved through insurance and it cost them like 600 bucks. I didn't know that until almost a year later, but man I felt bad for hiding it so I wouldn't have to wear it.

yeah, i hear ya on the brace thing, lol, that's how i got my cast off is with a steak knife. was really glad to have the med ins tho, i need 3 more surgeries on my back, and for 140 10mg vikes i pay $12. i had 2 discs fused, in bed for 6 weeks, drove me bat-shit crazy. sooo not looking forward to the next round. i'm in some serious pain, but i don't want to be fucked-up for the summer. my next surgery i'll be in a wheelchair for 2 months. its a bitch getting old. lol

I feel your pain man, I've had several cracked molars, that is a pain unlike anything I have ever experienced. One kept me up every night in excruciating throbbing pain for weeks. Nothing really cuts the pain completely.. have you tried straight clove oil though? That is the most effective instant-relief painkiller I have found for straight unrelenting tooth pain.

i remember when i had my wisdom teef taken out they said to keep the gauss in for a while, you'd think since they do the stuff all the time they would know what there talking about, turned out the gauss was what kept causing the bleeding because whenever it moves it pulls the bloodclot out.
Don't move your jaw at all except to eat soft foods, no talking, try breathing through your mouth to cause the blood to dry, swallow with your mouth open(so you don't suck the clot out), and don't suck on anything

I haven't smoked a cigarette since Tuesday morning (right before the dentist appt).
I feel fine, it's just a little blood in my spit. I'm going to try the tea bag method, but I need to get smaller tea bags. The ones I have are like 3x the size of regular bags and meant for making iced tea. Jumbo size, they fill up like 2/3 my mouth.
I'm kinda concerned though, since I should have been rinsing with salt water every 3 hours yesterday, but I don't know if I should be doing that with it still bleeding on and off.
I'll call up the dentist again later and ask what I should do. I do have a check up appt next week for it, but that's too long to wait.

It stopped bleeding and I've been rinsing with salt water every 3-4 hours.
I just wanted to make sure the clot set before I started rinsing with salt water. Or was I mistaken?

swishing too much can dislodge a clot, but if done gentile its ok. even if you were still bleeding, its good to rinse it out, but carefully. and it makes it feel better. how the smoking? i would buy the camel bare-ass when i had mouth issues. lol i roll my own smokes now, lots cheaper.

Yeah it's been stopped for over a day now. Started rinsing with salt water yesterday afternoon with no problems.
And man, that first cigarette last night almost floored me. I guess that's what happens when you stop smoking for 2 days. I almost hit the ground.
