Quicker growth

Does anyone know how to make the mycelium in a cake grow faster? Mine are growing really slow. I thought maybe its because they need more moisture but I dont want to risk contamination if I spray water in the jars. I have a towel on top of them to encourage warmth at the moment. It's been like 2 weeks and I just have a little clump of fuzzy white mycelium in a few jars.

patience grasshopper, uppin the temp makes them grow faster, but DONT go much over 80f. and definitely do not add moisture at this point.

take the towel off top of them, and dont add any water to them.
also did you take the foil off the lids? as long as you have a dry verm layer you dont want the foil on...

once i kept mine at 83` F. and had no problems. it only shaves about 3-4 days off though and its risky- you have to vent the incubater once a day at my place to keep the temp from gaining. if it gets too hot you could cook your whole grow befor it ever makes it to the fruiting chamber- have you seen some one post claiming 14 day full colonization times????? Ive been wondering about that too! i thought maybe they`re cakes were on steriods!!!! wa! wa! wa!

Two weeks is a normal time to show growth from MS, be patient. Take the towel off. Take the foil off if there is any on. And for god's sake, don't open the jars or put any water in them. fuck.

Ok sorry I'm a total newbie. Just wanted to be sure I wasnt doing something wrong. So when you guys say take the foil off you mean all the foil and let the top of the jars be exposed? And also in one of the jars the mycelium is growing past the dry verm layer. It looks like a little branch sticking out in the air over the dry layer.

yes, as long as you have a lid on the jar, remove the foil and let the dry verm be your barrier...sometimes growth comes up thru the dry verm, but its okay..

no, so you just have 1 layer of foil, which has the holes where you put the needle thru, correct?

I have that layer that has the holes and then a second layer over that one. So 2 total layers.

Ya, just have the one layer and you'll be good to go. The worst thing you can do at this point is mess with your jars. So take the one layer off and leave them be for a week or two.

Yea make sure it has good gas exchange. Keep the temperature as close to 80F as possible preferably under 85F.
Cakes can take up to 6 weeks to grow give them time.

So only 2 of my 6 jars are showing mycelium
And it's been about 3 weeks. I shook the jars a little to spread out the dry verm layer on top for the jars that aren't showing any growth. I guess since I squirted the spore solution onto the top of the cakes the dry verm layer may have soaked up all the solution in those jars. So I thought if I shook it a bit they'd have a better chance to reach the layer underneath with the BR flour... but at this point I'm confused why 2 are showing obvious mycelium while the others have nothing.

Don't shake jars with a jar verm layer. They rely on that layer not being disturbed. If they are, it can allow contams that have been sitting there to fall into the jars... Also how did you inoculate? You're supposed to slide the needle past the verm layer and inoculate against the side of the jar.

Yea I made the mistake of using jars that are twice the size of the ones I'm supposed to use. So when I put the needle all the way into the jar it's till not touching anything. So I ended up letting the liquid drip onto the entire mixture. The 2 that have mycelium may be that way because I squeezed more liquid out on those... I remember I used quite alot on some so then in the final ones I used alot less.

Ok so all 6 of my jars have growing mycelium. But its taking awhile for them to pin. I have a long vacation I'm going in in a month is there anything I can do to help speed up the process? Of maybe once I birth them a way to speed it up?
I'm worried because if they're not done in a month I either leave them to rot or have to throw them out
