Humidity Question

I cannot get the humidity up beyond 80% according to my Petco hydrometer. This would explain my poor pinning results. Is my FC just too small?

that tub isn't letting you have enough room to add the proper 4-5 inches of perlite, as well its not tall enough for the fruits to grow...
but, you dont have enough holes in there is the main problem
you should have holes all way around, top and bottom, and have the FC lifted on jars or something so air can come in from the bottom and rise up thru the perlite.

Petco hygrometer likely isn't working correctly. Your pics certainly are not working correctly.

Lots of things could cause poor pinning result, most of all no enough fresh air. Wrap your hydrometer in a wet towel for 1 hour , whatever it reads after the hour, treat that like 100%.

Are there holes? I'm guessing not enough FAE, not enough light. Put it near a window, fan several times a day. Mist heavily once or twice a day as needed to replace lost moisture.

Thank you all. More holes. I have been fanning and misting. Boy, I had some old information I using. I'll get a deeper tub as well. Great tip on the using a towel to calibrate the hydro.

Doc, Looking at the tub set up you linked to. Do you have start to finish plans for building this? Does it not use cakes? Is it perlite on the base of the container? Do you inoculate right into the container itself then?

Shotgun fruiting chamber is simple...Drill holes, 1/4 inch holes, 2 inches apart ON ALL 6 sides....4-5 inches of rinsed wet perlite....suspend the chamber at least 3 inches in the air on a counter top or something and you are good....The air goes through the bottom holes and evaporates water as it travels up through the perlite, thus making a 90+% humidity environment....boom

Shotgun terrarium tek. It's demonstrated on part 3 of the video set. RR

The humidity is higher down by the perlite, I would just move them onto some foil or a jar lid. Plus your perlite isn't getting re hydrated from your misting over spray if you have it covered up with whatever that black cloth is.

We'll do. Someone on this forum suggested having the cakes above the perlite which is why I did it. The black covering you see there is screen material.

You want them to be sitting on a piece of foil right on the perlite...make sure there is 4-5 inches of perlite in there too

They're OK raised up on a wire rack like that. It actually allows more air to flow up through the perlite. You do need a taller chamber though. Your mushrooms are going to hit the lid. RR
