how colonized should a tray be before initiating pinning?
    #1412251 -

How much should a tray be colonized before one attempts to initiate pinning? my friend used to grow, with limited success, in the past and has recently gotten back into it. he used to give it one week between casing and pinning, but now hes not sure if that is too long/short. he has read about overlay and wants to know what is a proper Amount of colonization to avoid this. im not exactly sure how to phrase what im Asking...maybe like A rough percentage of colonization or somewhere where i can find pics of the ideal amount of colonization. thanks for any replies

also, in the faq it says to wait until the mycellium hAs filled the valleys of the casing layer, but im not too sure what they mean by the 'valleys'

the valleys are the valleys.. u know like the lower parts. You cant make the casing perfectly flat.

Depending on the strain (how fast it will start to pin), try to innitiate pinning anywhere from 25-75% colonized. In other words dont do it when there is barely any, but dont wait so long that the whole top layer is white.

My friend waits until about 40% of the casing has some mycelium poking through. He then patches these areas and waits for a more uniform colonization.

yeah he waited two days And then patched up the mycellium that was beginning to poke through. alright, this will give him a better idea now. thank you

if u did it right the first time.. you should have a pretty even colonization, but I guess we can all be that good

IME 2 days before it looks like that would be better.
