To excel at something, first give yourself to that thing fully, then when a level of mastery is achieved, learn to detach yourself from the doing and excellence will become effortless.

Thoughts on this little pearl ?

That's pretty good stuff, you write it?

I agree.

Yeah, doesn't sound like me. It just means put as much energy and concentration into a process / task as you are allowed while acquainting yourself with it's problems and inspiring aspects. This means that even if you are occupied by work or academic stuff, you still fill your free time and free mind space with learning the task.
In the process of learning we are able to find a rhythm, and organize our approach, so as to minimize physical exertion. Then, when we learn to operate at this optimum level of physical involvement, we can then start to drain the thoughts associated with it from our awareness, and detach our focus from the process.

Still making sense ?

Yes, I like it a lot. This principal has been most apparent to me in the fluidity of music.

Also, I can roll a killer joint while having a conversation... barely look at the durn thing, and it never runs.

Music, work and joint rolling are all areas I've noticed this.
When I first started smoking I couldn't roll and my friends would always rib me about it, and when I would try and roll in front of them I would be intensely conscious of just rolling a doob. I would practice at home when they weren't there and gradually got better, but still the standard would drop around my friends. To get past it, I would concentrate on the conversation and while my focus was distracted, the joint would roll itself.
