Very nice find!
Will you perhaps be bioassaying them? I'd be very interested to see if the specimens that don't obviously show signs of standard alkaloids contain any other compounds, and if they produce any effects, and what those effects are.

Still deciding on this.

From my limited understanding they are generally inactive in Aus, although it might just be worthwile going through the excercise if for nothing else then to add some information on the subject.

You should have a fair few popping up around the traps, probably some tasty edibles too.  It's still too early for the cold loving species though.

Inactive usually meaning no psiloc(yb)in.  That is exactly what I'm interested in, G. junonius is often reported to contain some other compounds, and if there is no psychedelic alkaloids to get in the way, it may be easier to notice them.
You could make tea from fresh mushrooms, there is very little reliable information on this species and every experience is very welcome!

Righto so I went for the Wisco special and made myself a nice tea:

Original material (100g wet approx):

Brewed for approx 20 mins with some honey and a cinnamon stick thrown in towards the end.

Although I went into the process expecting no result whatsoever, I actually noticed a slight change in both mood and auditory/occular perception.  I definately felt a level of relaxation come over me, ontop of this I also noticed things becoming a little more vivid.

These effects were barely noticible, however they were definately present.  I will be keeping my eyes peeled on future hunts, to hopefully repeat the process with a bit more material.

Cheers all. :mushdance:

I dont think the Australian Gymnopilus junonius have psilocybin or psilocin they do have bis-noryangonin and hispidine, which are structurally related to alpha-pyrones found in kava.

edit: read the whole thread and this was already mentioned.
