Yoga. How do I?

Well I have a couple girl friends who are into yoga and I asked them if men do it too. They said YEA! I saw my one friend do some crazy ass poses. She had her elbows on the ground and her legs and feet above her head. After I saw that I now have to do it too.
What is a good way to get started? I dont want to pay for classes because I am too poor at the moment? I cant really stream video either because I am on dialup internet. Does anyone know anything I can start with?

If you go to your local library they'll have yoga DVDs you can borrow. A lot of them suck but it will give you the basics, and every one out of 20 is a gem. If you know anyone who does the P90 X, there's an awesome yoga DVD in that package. Not really worth buying the whole system, but a lot of people have that nowadays. 24-hour fitness has group yoga classes, if you just got a month membership and went to all of them you'd learn a lot. Youtube videos show you different poses you can try, including the sun salutation. Also get books on yoga or Yoga Journal magazine. No need to pay for expensive classes, you're not truly a yogi until you practice by yourself.

Is yoga really demanding on the muscles? I would be cool with that I am just concerned about lifting with yoga.
If its extremely demanding then I will have to cut back one day of lifting so that my muscles can get enough rest.

Oh, I though you were making an indirect comment to my previous response to the thread. I'm not really good with internet sarcasm, coupled with my overly self aware personality led to a misunderstanding.

The thing about yoga is that it's an entirely different strength than is required when lifting. It feels much gentler on the body because you're building strength slowly from within, rather than tearing your muscles and building them back up while you recover. Sure you can get a good workout doing yoga, but most soreness will likely be from stretching rather than holding difficult positions. This is good to know because it can be frustrating when you start yoga and suck at it, even if you start off physically fit. It takes a long time to get good at it cuz it's not just athletic strength, it's inner strength, flexibility, focus, and balance. But yoga will help all other areas of life and fitness. You can always tone it down when your body needs a rest from lifting and focus on more stretches, and then do the more advanced stuff when you're feeling energetic. Yoga is also all about listening to your body and figuring out what it needs that particular day, then tailoring your practice accordingly.

Look up TaraStilesYoga on Youtube. After your done drooling over her fucking epic yoga ass, just find one of her beginner videos and follow along. She has some pretty fucking hardcore poses in some of her videos. I thought I was hot shit with what I knew, went right into one of those, and halfway through the leg exercise, I was wobbling all over the place, unable to stay up.

Mmmmm....

You should really go take some classes to get started. Yoga, at least in the beginning, requires a trained eye you give you an idea of what your going for. If you don't have bodily awareness then you just don't understand what feelings your supposed to be going for, whats "Good" pain, whats "Bad" pain and where you should be experiencing both. Example: If your back starts to hurt during crunches/situps, its because your primarily using muscles within your vertebra. When properly engaged, you should be able to do all of your situps with the abdominal muscles and experience no back pain whatsoever. If a person didn't know that, their initial conclusion might be, "My back is weak, it needs to get stronger," opposed to, "My back shouldn't be doing this work, my abs should." Yoga is also a great way to meet women, and handstands are the shit.

With the exception of grammatical corrections, everything I say is completely false and without foundation.
