When soaking the popcorn, is it really neccessary to soak for 24 hours or could I get away with soaking it for like 6 hours?
I work on a very tight schedule.

you can get away with 6, but 24 works the best.

If you have a PC, Pressure cook your popcorn for 1 hour, eliminates the whole 24 soak process. DO NOT fill your PC more then 1/4 full with the popcorn tho or you risk clogging up the pressure release and that would not be good

Are you saying to skip the soak... and to pressure cook the popcorn without jars? I have used popcorn a bunch of times, and a 24 hr soak followed by a good simmer does it for me.

How could you guarentee proper moisture has been achieved?
Have you tryed this with reasonable results?
Not that it matters, my popcorns already soaking, but for future reference.

Yes, pressure cook just the grains for 60 minutes at 15 psi. afterwards i like to rinse and drain the grains 2-5 times until most of the sticky shits gone. then load your jars and PC 60 more minutes or longer if you prefer.

About soaking, i suggest you to try to soak in 3 different jars. Try one for 6 hours, the second for 18 hours and the third for 30 hours for example. You'll notice big difference in water absorption from the grain. My pop corn usually double in size in 24 hours showing its pretty well hydrated. BUT there are lots of different grains of pop corn, they wont all respond on the same way when you soak. Thats why i simply suggest you to test your grain each time you swap brand. In a generic way, they'll all works with 24 hours soak but for a perfect moisture i personally prefer test the water absorption before working on a lots of jars.
