Your post actually kind of inspired me to look into growing Pans in the past 20 minutes or so . As someone who enjoys quality over quantity this seems like an endeavor worth embarking on. What do you think you would change if you could change anything about this grow? Also what is the biggest difference going from cubes to pans? Thanks! If i was around long enough to give stars it would definitely be a 5 star grow in my book!

causing inspiration brightens my insomniatic face! thanks
the only thing i would change would be going bigger. i've read they don't do well in monotubs, but i'm going to throw some pans in a MSG (mono shotgun hybrid) and i'm going to use a 3-4 inch substrate with a 1" casing. the only difference between a monotub and the hybrid, is the hybrid has basically the same hole pattern as the traditional shotgun fruiting chamber (and no polyfil necessary). if i'm successful, i know that will yield so much more. i've harvested 4 trays so far and they're all yielding between 5-7 grams, which is plenty for me and my friends but i want more to be able to experience these.
the only differences that i know between cubes and pans are: -pans like to be dealt with in a timely manner whereas cubes don't mind sitting -they require dung -they require a casing (don't use coir/verm, use peat/verm + lime) -they require more FAE (this is mainly to prevent contamination, they're a lot weaker than cubes against outside forces) -they fruit best at 78-82, my temps have gone as high as 84 with no problems
other than that they roll out just like cubeys

I guess the next stage for me would be to get some good old fashioned WBS going with this stuff after a little more research.
Do you have a personal preference as to strain or source? Do you do any isolation with these?

I've had a Pan cyan print from stonesun for a little while now but not the means to grow it so I've been waiting, I'm soon to get some new stuff and once that gets here I will be hopefully trying my hand at agar and then from there I can move into work with these Pan cyan. I lost my Pan cambo print somehow so I'll need to get my hands on another of those because I love how they look a lot more but still bravo

i don't really have the experience amongst strains, this is the first round of pans for me. check out any of the sponsors here that carry them, they're all reputable businesses.
i just started working on isolation, and i have maybe 12 isolates for this strain to test. this grow was multispore though. i started from a print, to agar, to WBS. i'm really excited about testing out the isolates, with pans and cubes alike. pans aren't nearly as fun isolating as cubes, you generally isolate the rhizomorphic growth, but pans only grow cottony, so it's a bit more difficult to distinguish sectoring. it took me about 4 transfer, but i finally have 10-12 with uniform growth so i believe them to be monocultures.
thanks free, everything i've ever read talked about how difficult these things are to grow, but they aren't at all. i'm using the most basic fruiting chamber available with great results. good luck, post anytime for advice when you get goin if needed.

higgledy-piggledy said: i think if youre on 10 g cubes you cant tell the difference between indoors and outdoors anymore.

well, good luck to you sir.
haha love the 'smiley'!
the funny thing was i've tripped just as hard as i did on the ~10 gram as when i've taken 2-3 grams.
i made 5 gram tablets by compressing ground mushrooms with my resin press and took two of them. just recently i made a tea with 140 grams of fresh cubes into ~8 oz pink lemonade mix (which i must say, kills nearly all shroom flavor), and drank it all. this was what i would consider my first level 5 trip, even though i've tripped uncountable times; unfortunately, it wasn't a good one. i blame it on bad environment so it's all good, (girlfriend arguin and shit) but it was absolute insanity. For at least an hour i rambled to myself about words and unwords... ie. "i finally know why i like stuff.. because i don't unlike it" i think i did this with every set of opposing words i could think of. and at one point i was walking from side to side of my apartment, thinking i was going to do somethin at the other side, but when i got there couldn't remember what, so i went back. pretty crazy because this went on for quite a while.
i also used to make capsules with with my capsule maker, and had the same experience. no matter how much i ate, i didn't get as 'up' as when chewin them up. perhaps it is just coincidence but i've had the same turnout everytime, besides the tea (which i chopped up and didn't grind); chewing them up, compared to grinding and ingesting, results in a stronger trip by weight. wonder if this is the same for everyone or just me?
thanks again guys/gals, i'll keep this updated. harvest could potentially be tomorrow, if not for certain they'll be dunked in 48 hours.
This could all be in your head, but heres a possible scientific explanation
When you chew them up the mushrooms, and "juices" spend more time in contact with the buccal cavity of your mouth, meaning it can enter the blood stream in greater concentrations without as much of a first pass metabolism effect that you get with entirely oral dosing Ie tea.. you also swallow tea quickly because it isnt exactly a great taste, so tea is entirely oral dosing
Therefore this same logic means if you hold your shroom tea in your mouth, and "swig" with it, you may get the same "increased potency" effect that you get when you chew them. Otherwise tea should be overloading your receptors much quicker than chewing, simply because a greater concentration of drug is making it into the bloodstream and the brain at the same time when compared to chewed mushrooms.
Also, when you make tea, potency may be lost by heat , or not all the psilo leaves the biomass, and that may account for decreased potency if you don't eat the mush

DZ, it looks like you have an awesome harvest! I am hoping to get the same. I'm also trying to grow some Pan Cyan Jamaicans. Just yesterday I inoced some rye grass seed (coffee/water mix) and some cowshit-BRF-verm cakes. This is my first time trying pans. So here's hoping
