Hi guys
After being out of the hobby for a bit and getting rid of all of the equiptment I was wondering if there was any possible way to get some agar without a pc. I'm currently low on funds. If not its allright ill just have to save up.
Thanks.

Try the mushroom cultivation forum or the market place. This is the wrong forum.

You can buy pre-poured agar dishes. But get a little PC at a thrift store for ten bucks.

I'm wondering If you could prep a relatively low nutrient agar solution, in a pot of boiling water with a lid like you would for pf jars if you didn't have a pc? If it works for cakes why couldn't it work with agar? BRF is full of nutrition, plus agar is not very dense, it probably wouldn't be hard to get it and hold it at temp long enough?

Possible but not certain, imo. Depends on the cleanliness of your ingredients and the quality of your technique. I don't think steam sterilization is suitable for LC either, even though it heats quickly and evenly like agar does.
I suppose it's worth somebody trying just to see. make up a batch of dishes, leave half unopened and see how many contaminate.

you could get contams even infront of a flow hood if you leave your stuff open for two long... but def leaving some controle plates is necessary..

I've poured lots of plates and made agar before I got a pc and HEPA. I just mixed the agar powder and water in a mason jar, covered with foil and put in the oven at about 275. Once I saw it was boiling I would allow it to continue boiling for maybe 15 minutes. I would then turn the oven off and it seemed like it would take a good hour or two before it would cool enough to be handled/poured. I would also pour the plates in the oven when it was still very warm, hoping the convection current would help carry away contams. Very few of my plates ever contaminated, especially when I included peroxide.

Was thinking of disposable petri dishes, but figureds I could use the search feature at the top
They come pre sterilized... I just did up 10 dishes and was like, "Shit I didn't clean them things!". Then I remember a post I read from RR saying they are good to go.
