I'm afraid there is no evidence for that claim.

Other videos have him proposing that "no one is smarter than you are" and "you are the center of the mandala".

Ralph Waldo Emerson said the same thing in his Essay on Self Reliance.

Here's an excerpt: "Whoso would be a man must be a nonconformist. He who would gather immortal palms must not be hindered by the name of goodness, but must explore if it be goodness. Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of your own mind. Absolve you to yourself, and you shall have the suffrage of the world. I remember an answer which when quite young I was prompted to make to a valued adviser, who was wont to importune me with the dear old doctrines of the church. On my saying, What have I to do with the sacredness of traditions, if I live wholly from within? my friend suggested, — "But these impulses may be from below, not from above." I replied, "They do not seem to me to be such; but if I am the Devil's child, I will live then from the Devil." No law can be sacred to me but that of my nature. Good and bad are but names very readily transferable to that or this; the only right is what is after my constitution, the only wrong what is against it. A man is to carry himself in the presence of all opposition, as if every thing were titular and ephemeral but he. I am ashamed to think how easily we capitulate to badges and names, to large societies and dead institutions."

Well that certainly sounds good and I don't like to put a damper on the party because it sounds like a blast and I'd love it to be true but what also came to mind was his last interview when his brain cancer was pretty advanced and death was near and certain. (I hope I remember this correctly)  The interviewer wanted to talk about these theories and TM stopped him and said I'm really not interested in those things right now. What interests me is that I'm having chocolate ice cream after this interview.  Now he was pretty worn down at that point and I certainly don't blame him. But it's got to make you think.

Well death is bigger than any one man's theories.  That doesn't mean they weren't true.  Just shows you how transient all things are, including our thoughts and beliefs.

We're all in mad cults unless we go it alone and think for ourselves the whole duration of the physical lifespan.

It's a bit of a shock to see our cultures are just conditioned behaviours pretty much forced upon us since birth. We inherit all our beliefs from some idiots who inherited theirs. And the way these people will defend it! Amazing really, makes me think you're still a primate until you evolve psychologically.

The minute you get under religious people's skin, they become as fucking children all right!

You'll be a primate your whole life here dude.  You're right however, it came as a shock to see the programs that move the race and those that understand usually use the knowledge to gain power and money and control. This all goes back to survival instincts and death anxiety imo. Best to go it alone once you understand it to any great extent.

I'm a primate, okay, but I guess what I mean is they're just animals in a cage until they work it out for themselves and disconnect from the herd's thinking and so-called 'culture'. For one who does, they are no longer a mere pet of the cultural engineers. They are simply higher beings. They've broken the seal over higher thinking. They're not these monkeys doing as monkeys do.

Well I see through most all the programs imo but do not consider myself a "higher being". That's pretty presumptuous and I don't need the strokes that idea provides.  I'm just doin my thang.:satansmoking:

mckenna blatantly disregards buddhism as neoism and dies from brain cancer.
some of the things he says are very logical and well thought out as far as culture and human operating systems go, not to mention his speeches on drugs.

but i cant take most of his stuff to , buddha quotes are much more accepted to my own life

I like some of McKenna's ideas but his voice just makes me chuckle and not take him so seriously for some reason.

ive been looking for it for like 20 minutes and cant find it, but i definitely remember him saying that he didnt fully believe in buddhism completely because he thought it was neoism

it might be from this
The world and its double

i woudldnt lie about such a statement though

I can back Boxy up on that.  He says several times that he's not a fan of formal meditation practice.  He viewed buddhists as arrogant and unwilling to accept anything outside their own teachings.

One I remember was him saying you can sit for 25-30 years and hope something happens...or you can take 5 grams and have something happen.

Interesting to note in his last interview he said that in his view the ideal way to live would be some kind of mixture of drugs and meditation.  Use one to break through the plateaus of the other.

What Icelander pointed out-
Quote:

The interviewer wanted to talk about these theories and TM stopped him and said I'm really not interested in those things right now. What interests me is that I'm having chocolate ice cream after this interview.  Now he was pretty worn down at that point and I certainly don't blame him. But it's got to make you think.

He may not have been a fan of buddhism but imminent death does tend to focus one on the present moment. Buddhism tells you to not even try and understand the universe, just eat your rice.

I think that was some of the fun that I saw in his presentation.
...Like he was serious but laughing the whole time inside trying to make you laugh on a resonant frequency that is as deep within your own experience.

I really enjoyed Food of The Gods.
And, Mckenna seemed to satisfy something with me that wanted to listen at the time to where 'that' was coming from.
