I think this board and its users are a good example that our nature isn't violence and stupidity. Evil selfish human world-destroyers... discussing spirituality, philosophy and wanting to expand their consciousness in a friendly, hopeful manner? Does not compute.

Try OTD and the Political forum, then check out all the fights in PM and arguments and people putting people on ignore and giving outrageously bad ratings etc.  Take off the blinders. There is plenty of warfare here. Maybe a little less than elsewhere mostly imo because most here are young and not yet fully having had to make a living/surviving in the big bad world.

No one is saying that everything about humans is bad.

There is a limited amount of resources. You live in America and seeing that you have internet, you are much wealthier than most of the world. It is wrong for you to live at the standard you do when people in Africa, Asia, and South America are starving and unable to live up to their full potential due to your greed.

Also, your computer was probably made in china. You are just splurging on things created by the capitalistic system at the expense of others who work for meager wages in poor conditions.

I don't need you to tell me that I was born into extremely lucky conditions. I plan to use my resources and intellect to attain a good education and enact as much positive change as I can. Do you?

I saw my whole generation saying this and not much came of it. See it's easy to project positive actions for the future but that rarely actually happens. The "revolution" of the 70 brought us to where we are today. The worlds more of a mess than ever imo.

You haven't really tried in any major way yet i'm assuming. You may only be a lot of talk like most. I'm so unimpressed by those who tell me what they are going to do before they've done it. :satansmoking:

No, I plan on living out my own personal existence to the fullest extent possible. It is pointless to inflict suffering upon myself due to the inevitable misfortune of others. Morality is nothing more than the herd instinct in man.

I agree. Each man should seek out his own happiness in what ever way he feels he can reach that goal.  I follow my own personal ethics and that's all I need. No one would agree with them but me.

We are being distracted and disillusioned, dismayed and discontented from the pure perspective and power of the present. Let it be so, the artist is not finished with us yet, imo.

You see helping others as "inflicting suffering upon yourself." I'm not sure what exactly I'm supposed to say to that.

Talk to the professionals if you don't think that is a valid conclusion. Talk to a practicing psychologist. Talk to a cancer doctor. Talk to anyone who gets to experience the crap that happens in this world via another.

That isn't going away any time soon. And it does hurt to take it on. That's why the Bodhisattva claims to give up his body. He sacrifices it to others.

Helping others, which is what a clinical psychologist aims to do, which is what a cancer doctor aims to do, which is what many professions aim to do, does cause suffering for the individual doing the helping.

Does that explain?

Well yeah, if we accept that the cause of suffering is desire, then the desire to help someone (especially if there is an inability to do so) will inevitably cause suffering, until the desire is overcome and it simply becomes the entity's nature to bring love and aid to others in everything they do.

Oh, I am not angry. I am actually rather happy to argue with another aspiring "do-gooder" whose arguments are so easily dismantled.

Your ideas are unoriginal and childish. They fail to look at the world through a reasoned and scientifically accurate approach, and instead rely on emotion.
