Can anyone help please. Have 18 gal mono tub with 8 holes 4 at casing level,4 at top. The substrate is straw and the spawn is cracked corn, casing layer is peat/verm/oyster shell flour. The problem is that the casing layer is drying out but the humidity is still 94. I have read that you don't mess with tubs. what to do. Thanks for the help.

Just because his rh is 94% with a dehydrated casing doesn't mean his hygrometer is broken...

If the ak in akshroomer means Alaska, it's probably a hard winter there right now, which means the air is very dry (around 20% RH or so). Digital hygrometer in these conditions is useless.
To rectify your problem, go ahead and mist the casing layer heavily and block up 2 of those holes at the surface level, maybe even all 4. Please clarify if you're using a digital or analog hygrometer though.

using an analog, will try taping off bottom holes but am also advised to not use casing layer in mono. So will try both ways not like I have a shortage. Yes I am in Alaska and yes it is cold and dry.

My experience is just the opposite. It's been my experience that cheap digitals are better than cheap analogs.
I call for pics. And a dunk. But mostly pics.

Went and got digital hygrometer for green house still at 94 so will cover holes but already know that it will be at 99 by evening. So will just have to mist and fan for now,but will also try no casing layer on a couple.

No, no. 94 is great. Don't cover holes, open them up. Mist as needed.

That's just it I work out of town sometimes 2 or 3 days gone so cannot mist every day. That's why went to tubs set and forget. Do you think I would be better off without a casing? Thanks for the input.

this hobby isent really like that,..
straw isent really the best,
use 60% manure, 20% straw, and 20% verm
for the casing verm and peat with a tiny bit dry wall or oyster shells
when you hydrate the substrate, i find the best way is to fill a pillow case with everything then put it in a bucket of water for a half hour under a weight so it can suck up water then squeeze out all the water as much as you can ,
i find a quick flush of the substrate helps a great deal, people think it washes away lots of nutes but the bulk of nutes are in the substrate its self, the liquid is good for plants though so save whatever you squeeze out if you compost or garden

Took 2 differ ant suggestions on all replies Thank You everyone. No pictures but quick summary. All tubs colonized. Cased one with peat verm, and oyster shells. Cased tub shut off two holes on each side, mist and fan once per day. First flush 225grams wet. One tub not cased just put plastic till colonized then closed off one hole on each side, did not open for one week and mist and fan. 230 grams wet. All I can say is once a year is enough. Thanks Again
