spawning to bulk

So I plan on crumbling some bed and spawning to coir. Do I need to let the mycelium grow through the coir and then add the casing. Or can I spawn and add the casing right away?
Last question is how big should the holes be for gas exchange in a 15 1/4 in L x 9 3/4 in w x 7 1/8 in H? Basically im making a mini mono tub that's about the size of a shoe box and was wondering how big the holes need to be...
Thanks!!

not sure on casing timing... still learning on that one, but you want 1/4" holes every 2" or you might want to consider a mini double tub
don't be afraid to use the search engine; it's great! good luck!

the inverted tub on top of your tub with substrate helps create a semi-contained microclimate. though I'm pretty sure you would still want a GH or a SGFC with perlite to place your mini trays in/on.
it's one of many ways you can go about fruiting. the options best suited to you depend on what type of space you are growing in and what your weather patterns are like... elevation, humidity, temps, etc...
honestly, it simply sounds like you have more reading to do.... check the link "here" in my signature; it should help tons.

on the casing, spawn your colonized grain to your bulk substrate, then wait until it is fully colonized. after full colonization, add your casing layer. my recipe for casing is 50/50 peat moss/verm and then add 1% hydrated lime. i mix 3.5 quarts of dry peat with 3.5 quarts of dry verm then mix in 1/4 cup hydrated lime. mix it all well, then hydrate to field capacity. pasteurize 140-160f for 90-120 minutes. this is enough to fill 7 quarts, which is all my pot will hold.
as far as holes, do you know how many quarts the tub is?
for my 56 qt tubs, I use (8) 2" holes, which equates to ~16200 mm^2 of open area. if you tell me what size hole you want to use, and the volume of the tub, i will figure out how many holes you need to achieve an equally proportionate amount holes.
note: these holes are loosely stuffed with polyfil*

Im an experienced grower afar as cakes go. So far I have spawned to coir without a casing in a sgfc. I have colonized brf cakes. Not grains.
The tub im fruiting in is the size of a large shoe box. I don't mind buying another box for a better micro climate....
Thanks for the info btw

Dub tub it is!! Since its shoe box size do you think that one inch holes stuffed with polgfill is suffice? Also what do people use to keel the top on?

how many one inch holes? On my setups I use a shotgun style top, with a big hole on the top top with polyfil. Too keep the top on you can use some tape. Its really simple.

yes! keep it simple!
I like that idea of a bigger hole on the top with polyfill!
"shotgun" style is 1/4" every 2" in a gridlike fashion. honestly though, you can drill more or less and, because your situation is different from everyone else's (sure, some similarities cross between us), you'll end up having to tweak it... or not... you won't know until you just do it! drill less to begin with and if it needs more FAE, drill more. then go from there. failure teaches you something, so it isn't failure at all. just have fun with it, persist, keep reading, and eventually you will succeed. (unless you are a dirty mofo suffering from short-term memory loss)
good luck!
