incubator question
    #14113954 - 03/13/11 12:04 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

so am i to understand that i shouldn't incubate?

i have a small incubator i built that hold around 76-78 Fahrenheit and i holds up to 10 quart jars. I have 5 treasure coast jars going in rye and 5 koh samui (original strain) going in WBS in the incubator, and 1 rye coast and 1 WBS  samui going in a cupboard as a comparison....

i knocked the koh samui's up on 2-28-11, and first signs of colonization happened on 3-6-11 in the incubator, first signs of the cupboard jar showed on 3-12-11..

the rye jars where knocked up on 3-7-11 with the treasure coast spores, and ALL the rye jars in the incubator were showing healthy growth by 3-11-11, with the jar in the cupboard still showing nothing...

should i really take em all out and put them in the cupboard and trade slower colonization for potentially higher contam resistance? just really curious cause i have seen alot of people giving incubators a bad wrap on here and I've always found them very useful; also, not trying to start a full blown debate, just want my jars to colonize in ideal temps :-P

oh, also, all innoc's were done MS from trustworthy syringes if that makes any diff to any of u.

bacteria THRIVES at higher temperatures.

myc does better at higher temps.

myc also does very well at the 60-75 range.

i dont like incubators.

also the reason your jars are germinating at different times are not the temperatures. its your spores.

spores will all germinate at different times. even from the same syringe.

even from the same print.

If you put them in the incubator they will colonize about a month faster. I think it actually takes contamination risk down because its easier to sterilize an incubator than a cupboard.

wtf are you talking about.

contams INSIDE your jar do not come from your CUPBOARD.....

and an incubator will not make them colonize THIRTY DAYS faster.

no fuckin way

a month faster? are you kidding?

even at 65-70 degree temps the jars will be colonized before a month on most occasions.

as well if you have a proper filter you dont have to worry about sterilizing the incubator or cupboard
