Should i see colonization by now??

Hey guys, am fairly new to the growing methods so am asking some questions.
I inoculated PC Mazatepec late friday night, so its been about 2 days now. I have an incubator like this one
The incubator has been at 83 degree f.
Another question. The water i used for the BrF jars is tap water and mine leaves a white residue when boiled, another factor that i did was to run the vermiculite on grinder for 3 secons because they where too big and fat. Would any of this affect my growth or am i just being way to impatient. Love and thanks

lose the incubator! 83f is good temp for contamination and nothing else! Was it MS inaculation(syringe)? If it was 2 days is nothing...dont worry,if u did all good it will start growing soon!

What do you mean by "lose the incubator" and what is MS?

1st Be patient. 2nd If you drink it your mush will too. 3rd You are really pushing the temps, I would back it off a little myself.

i always wait at least a week before i freak out but sometimes it can take even longer especially if you used multi spore. Also you should probably lose the incubator they are not needed and are not worth the hassle. i would also say 83 degrees is a little too high of a temperature anyway. Incubators are a common misconception based on outdated information from older teks.

I mean room temp is just fine! incubator is contams "playground". MS is Multi Spore(spore syringe)

ok I will definitely reduce the temp, probally 80', i just thought that 86 was optimum but i forgot that the jars realease heat. TY bro.

1. The residue is probably from hard (mineral-heavy) water, not a big deal. Actually it's preferable in my opinion. 2. Don't incubate. If you're comfortable in the room in a t-shirt, they will be too. 3. Expect to wait a week or two before visible growth from spores appears. 4. Coarse vermiculite is preferable to fine vermiculite with BRF because it keeps the substrate fluffy and prevents clumping. This isn't to say what you did is bad, but wasn't necessary. I'd leave the verm like it is next time.

I don't think an incubator is that much of a waste of time if you keep the temp lower. My logic is that by doing that your not fluctuating the temperature throughout the day, keeping it consistent so it doesn't shock the spores. Whether or not its true is up for debate.

About a month ago, i unsuccessfully tried and grow some brf , but what i think i did wrong was to let the jars touch the bottom of the pot. They never grew anything 2 months later.

qft...aside from the temperature aspect, GE is important. my jars get a 12/12 light cycle as well to promote circadian rhythm, something you cant do in a incubator (you can i guess but i havnt seen it done).
newbs always obsess over temp during incubation while at the same time pack too much ployfil, have overly wet grains and suffocate their jars. with MS im at 100% colonization in 3 weeks (easily) with very basic jars.
i keep my grow area at 72-75 around the clock, you have to remember that internal temps in the jars are going to be higher then your room temp. just leave your jars on a shelf.
incubators will do more harm than good. (they dont do any good)

I dunno man I like my incubator. I keep it at around 75-77, plus then i can spray lysol before i close it to make sure no contams get in. I just like that it keeps temperature consistant. One of the virtues of science is consistancy as well as replicability. Im trying to use the method properly and keep track of it in my head and an incubator works for that.

dude.....
nothing but sterile air can get into or out of your jars if you are using a proper filter.
please stop spraying lysol onto your jar filters.....

Im using the 2 tinfoil lids method there are no filters. Theres just one folded piece that i punctured for inocualtion and another one overtop of that. And im not spraying it ON it im spraying it above it and then it gently settles.

are they pf style cakes?
if so hopefully you have the dry verm layer. and you should remove the top layer of foil.
your inoculation holes should be exposed, or at least covered with micropore tape to allow for gas exchange.
how do you suppose your jars are breathing right now?

That thought had crossed my mind... I got the dry verm layer for sure, i guess thats my filter lol. Do you think that if i cut up some band aids and put that over the holes itll work.

your dry verm layer is your filter. you dont need a filter on your foil holes.
are you not using jars?
