on ignore
    #14113195 - 03/13/11 07:48 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Right now 32 people have me on ignore.  Considering my positions here and my sometimes heavy handed direct debate style that can be easily explained.  What I find curious however is that of the 32 I only recognize three or four of the names. Anyone care to speculate on this?

The ignore feature is used to subjectively modify one's reality.
Think of those 32 people as glue huffers- you may not understand it, but w/e, right?

They are obviously not very good at it...

I have no one on official ignore. :smirk:

Tip for the potential ignore-r: These sites tend to have a little bar on the side, that allow you to move up and down a page.

Unhappy with certain content on the page? Use this feature to "scroll" passed it. This failing, try the little "X" at the top corner.

To be honest (opposed to before when I was joking) I think the ignore function is meant to be used if you are actually being harrassed, it is a variation of a "block" feature.

However, I personally don't think you should be able to see who (in paticular, their names) is ignoring you.

I've never even felt the urge to ignore someone so it doesn't really register for me. I meet way worse people in person and I don't have an ignore feature then. I've developed some solid coping mechanisms revolving around internal change. No external change required. Part of customer service over many years in a coorporate environment.

Just work customer service in a coorporate environment where external solutions aren't an option because the customer is always right. Its a quality born out of my environment and has nothing to do with being "too good". Internal change is my default even when external is possible. Thus no urge to ignore.

Censoring limits your freedom of expression.
By using ignore, a member allows you to express yourself without limits.

I've been working in customer service the past few years and know what you mean.

though I believe one can have this quality, yet still have a justifiable reason for not wanting to listen to someone talk.  one way to look at it... it's human nature for personalities to clash.  there's nothing wrong with wanting to surround oneself with a more comforting environment, IMO.

the person placing people on ignore is very basically censoring, for themselves, the content of the website

Pro-corporation? No. Anti-hysterical hippie, yes.

I'm left of center. Where I live, that makes me a ferocious liberal. On this board, I'm still to the right of everybody else.

I've worked for some big corporations though, including Pepsico.

I worked for some big corporations and some mom and pop shops.  I prefer the big corporations any day.  They pay better, treat the employees better and have higher quality/safer products.

While I think it's interesting to know who want's to ignore me, really, in this basically anonymous world while on line, who cares?

Just my two cents (that the gov wants to take, too).

visitor,

Name calling and personalisms are against the rules in PS&P. If you can't debate the topic without resorting to calling people names, then don't post in PS&P. Try the OTD forum where calling each other names is how they debate there.

Read the rest of the rules here before you post again:

3) You can't have a certain plant in your possession or you'll get locked up with a rapist and a murderer.

4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.

I don't really think that was a personalism. Stating that it's possible that someone finds you obnoxious, and that someone might ignore you, is not a declaration that you are obnoxious rather a possible explanation why someone might ignore you.

He said "Could be the fact that you're obnoxious.", not "Could be because someone finds you obnoxious.".

Yeah this place and it's rules is pretty intense.  I called someone "think headed" one time and got a short ban from this forum.  It's best to just not refer to other people on a personal level AT ALL here if you don't want a ban, because almost anything personal can be twisted into a personalism... even if you don't think it's a personalism your opinion doesn't really mean shit only the mods does.

I've never seen the need to ignore anyone... if someone consistently posts atrocious posts then I can just scroll past their input.

Also I have a similar situation to Ice in that I don't recognize the majority of people ignoring me.  I see I'm also ignored by Power and Band of Gypsys... no clue who these individuals are.  One thing I do find bothersome is that you can't PM someone who's ignoring you to find out why they don't care for your posts (and possibly change due to the constructive criticism).

I had to ignore some people... especially when their avatar is a piece of poop with your face photoshopped onto the end of it.
