Im in Syd and went for a look at the one and only patch I found last year (I started late in the season and am new) but nothing there , Im wondering if there was a patch there last season is it pretty much guaranteed to be there again this season? Anyone in Syd having any luck yet?

Still very warm in Sydney, low and max temps are pretty high you are looking for temps maybe 6 - 7 degrees lower than they are currently to kick off the season.
If the patch was producing last year then there is a very good chance they will be back this season, I would take another look in late April after some good rain and low temps

cool thanks for the info, imagine if the net didnt exist and people had to experiment by themselves to find out this info! I cant wait for the new season, Ive got some good thoughts to meditate on in a tank, Has anyone here shroomed in a sensory deprivation tank? It is basically a tank that has water temp the same as your body temp, and is enclosed so you are in complete darkness, there are no senses apart from mind giving you any input... I think shrooming in a sensory deprivation tank would be incredible, .. cant wait till this season starts producing! good luck all

Thanks for the kind comments guys, yeah they start to dry out a bit after they sit in the sun without much rain, but certainly don't lose their potency A great start to the season, and only beginning of April! This season is gonna be legendary

It makes the drying process quicker if you pick them half dried

Hows it goin? I am a totally inexperienced hunter and a more inexperienced shroomery poster with a few questions up my sleeve. I went hunting today in a cool, wet, creek like bushy area and found the place to be teeming with fungi. First question: Am I allowed to be a little more specific with what area of NSW I am in? it seems to be counter productive to the sharing of info which this forum is trying to stimulate. Next question: So I picked a whole bunch of stuff, wondrous looking stuff, but none of it bruised blue except for the boletes which I've already susssed are a negative. Is the stuff that I'm looking for going to be all and instantly bruising blue? Last question: From reading these forums it seems that what I am looking for in cool, moist bushland areas of NSW are simply the one species, the 'subs', true or false?

Welcome Kitalor, it's always good to see new faces
> Am I allowed to be a little more specific with what area of NSW I am in? Yes. General locations are fine, just not specific lacations.
> Is the stuff that I'm looking for going to be all and instantly bruising blue? Most Psilocybes will bruise blue quite quickly (at least within a couple of minutes... but usually quicker). The extent and intensity of the blueing is variable. The easiest place to see it is on the stem.
> From reading these forums it seems that what I am looking for in cool, moist bushland areas of NSW are simply the one species, the 'subs', true or false? True. Look for Psilocybe subaeruginosa if you are in the southern half of the state.

Cheers TimmiT, Thankyou for confirming my suspicions. I am looking around the blue mountains which is about the middle of the state. So now I am focusing on Psilocybe subaeruginosa. Should I broaden my search area beyond bushlands to say parklands?

The Blue Mountains are a good place to be looking. In bushlands look in areas that stay moist (south facing slopes, gullies, etc). Subs are a lignicolous (wood loving) species so they grow from woody debris/ litter on the forrest floor.
Definately look in parklands. Many people here find subs in urban areas. Look in beds of woodchip mulch that stay damp.

Not long now sydney-siders i just got informed one patch is starting to go off with subs but most places are still pretty dead. Its been a long wait for me since last year and i think this year is going to be fruitful.

Went for a hunt last night in the mountains. Wasn't long until me and a mate stumbled upon a very very nice patch of subs
