Looks about 30 grams... eat em fresh, it's much more potent imo

Haha it's all good. Thanks for taking a stab. I'm just happy I found anything. I'll check the patch and others in the coming days and grab some more. Gotta love renewable resources!

Hello, I've been a bit of lurker over the years. I have been getting more and more intrigued by mushrooms. Today I found some mushrooms in my garden that I've never seen before. They stain blue and have a slight purple hue to the spore print. I think they may be subs but would like some verification.
The area they were found in was under a very old pine tree with lots of bracken (ferns) about. There were also plenty of slippery jacks too. The altitude is around 800 metres asl. The area is also has several types of eucalyptus. The ground is also covered in wood chips that were layed down over a year ago.
Thanks for your help.

Cant tell from the first photo, but at least some in pic 2 are subs, and pics 3,4 & 5 are definitely subs.
Nice work

Cool, thanks dude! The shroom in the first pic stained blue very quickly and almost stained half of the cap.
They all stained a dark blue/grey colour and all have the same smell. The gills all look identical too.

That's the first time I've heard of anyone having a run-in with the cops over hunting in the Blue Mountains. Were they trespassing or on public property?
I hope this isn't a sign of things to come...

The Blue mountains, and Brindabella mountains are all protected by National Park law,
you can get some hefty fines just for walking around in some places.

Luckily the brindies are too far away for the pigs to patrol. If a park ranger came up to me while hunting I would just laugh in their face and move to another location.

Not true, my mate who lives there said he has seen cops on bikes out there twice this year. Both times were on the weekend. Don't know if it was mushroom related. But they know what people do out there... Anyone not in a 4x4 or on a dirt bike is going to look suspicious.

It's against the law to remove any kind of plant material from national parks. Get caught and you're in for a big fine. Get caught by cops with shrooms, and it will be even worse.

If you want to avoid getting caught, just remain unseen from start to finish.
Park your car far away from your usual spots
Don't carry big plastic bags, small brown bags in your jacket pocket work fine.
Stay away from any main roads
You need a secure location in your car to put them in. Find somewhere hidden or better yet, make a spot.
Keep your car clean and remove any picking equipment. I.e paper bags, gloves, scissors, boots etc. That goes for any other drug paraphernalia.
Someone suggested on this thread (sorry can't remember who) that you could also bring a small note pad and camera with you. Then you can just say you were taking notes on shrooms and documenting them (Like a student)
Try not to 'look' like someone looking for shrooms. Most likely you are searching for them out in the woods, up in the mountains somewhere so try and dress like a hiker and not like you just came from the gym.
Most importantly guys, DO NOT GET SEEN. People around these areas have been living up here there for years, rangers have been on the job for decades. They know exactly what you're up to, so don't give anyone a reason to be suspicious of you.
But all in all, have fun, and keep safe.

Thanks for the heads up Gavn. Fucking Katoomba cops. I was working at a Cafe there. A crazy dude came in and started hitting my manager. We managed to chase him down the street, but we could see him sitting outside a building about 200m away. We called the cops at 5pm, they said yep, we'll check it out. But of course nothing happens. We call them back at 10pm to ask what was going on. "Yehhh we're a little tied up here, try calling back tomorrow." Bearing in mind this was a Sunday night.
I guess they were too busy busting kids for picking an organism that grows naturally in the ground and is less toxic than a cappuccino. Meanwhile my friend lives in a street in K-town near an obvious ice dealer house. People always out the front and coming and going. A cop lives on the same street, he gives a friendly a wave when he drives by.
Good advice scalloplee. The student angle is a good one. Be assassin like friends.

my first season, I have started looking and have found TONS of shrooms with orange caps and thin stems, but they dont bruise blue when I pinch the stem... any idea what these could be? they look really similar to pictures posted here, but maybe a slightly lighter shade of orange on the cap. these buggers are all over wood chippings in my area.
