I find they grow more densely on woodchips, as it is the perfect substrate for them. They can form one big organism and send out lots of little fruits. In bush they tend to be more spread out as they have to find the right substrates, so usually they are smaller patches. BUT you can find just as many in the bush as you would on woodchips, just gotta look harder.
Thats just from my experience anyway.

Both? Depends where you live and whats closest to you I've never found them in woodchip gardens, nor have I ever looked in woodchip gardens. But browsing this website shows you how much subs love woodchip gardens... You just have to find them

Nice patch JP.
I agree with your comments JP - Wood chip beds tend to have larger patches where the ones I get out in the bush tend to grow on their own or very spread out - one every couple of meters of so.

I reckon I've seen a thousand subs this season in Melb.....seriously. You need to find better spots.

Hey guys I really cant wait for next weekend more rain I think. Can I ask some question Do pine forests have woodchips near them is it like that pine trees been chopped down that there will be woodchips anywhere? because I don't know where did woodchips came from so I can look more if they live near the pine forest or dont matter what kind of trees if I can find woodchips in the bush or something? Also I want to see recently subs pics that grow in pine needles would like to see it so I can hunt next weekend hopefully Thanks

found about 30 today.. 6 different kinds.. and i think only 2 of them are subs. but they could possibly be my first two. regardless, i actually found mushrooms, which will keep me hunting for a while longer. will post some pics when i have more time and the spore prints come through.
good to see things are going well for some of you!

Hey guys, so I was taking a leisurely stroll yesterday through a park in the western 'burbs, and stumbled upon these sweet specimens:

All in all I picked about 70, very, very nice haul IMO. This was before the rain yesterday by the way. Had a little nibble last night, very enjoyable indeed.
Happy shrooming guys! Peace

I've found subs in a lot of strange and sometimes hard to reach places. Universities, high schools, front yards. But this is by far the best spot I've found. Smack bang in a giant ashtray! The photo isn't the best, but this was in quite a high traffic area you understand. It was funny coz when i picked them I would have looked seedy as, burying through cigarette butts.
I find for me I end up thinking about and picturing where I found the shrooms when I trip. So I'm not sure if that bodes well for this batch.
Perhaps Cleland can change his habitat description to
"Solitary to gregarious in complex habitats such as soils rich in woody debris, decaying piles of leaves and twigs, sandy woody soils, gardens, amongst bark chips, and in ashtrays."
-------------------- The mycelium grows beneath our feet And come Friday night we’ll suckle at its teet For years, hours, days, and months We’ll dine on mushrooms for breakfast and lunch And when the hour has come to say I’ve had my fill, my bill is paid I’ll bend my knees and examine the earth For signs of life and fungi birth

bad taste left in my mouth, however very interesting!!
We have had a good dose of rain and the temps are looking okay in my region... i'll wait a week or so...
Thing that sucks i have exams coming up and cant continue to hunt on wednesday because i cant afford to drop anymore subjects!!!
Good news however, a friend from melb brought some up for me for a rave (magic city)... i had a heaped spoonful of mushies soaked in lemon.. they came on strong and i nearly left the rave 20mins in... they pulled my head together and kept me there, once i settled i experienced the best thing...
Kai Tracid & DuMonde at the peak of my trip... Ohhhh my gooddd!!
Listen to that drop, combined with epic Q-Dance lights... So GOOD!
Sorry to get off track just had to express my love for fun guys!
Such a profound experience
