The forecast looks good for the next week as well. Cant ask for better shroom weather at the moment.

hope the rain renews the patches... for everyone!
on the drying process I notice people say use a fan and then dehydrator or even the Desiccant process , what if one was to just use a hair dryer and just leave it blasting the mushies for an hour or so, that wouldnt have any negative effects on the active chemicals would it?

I dunno.. maybe, hair dryer = heat? Whats wrong with drying them slowly? Sometimes I just let mine sit on the shelf for like 4-5days without a fan and they dry?
...looks like everyone is getting but me

CactusGumnut said: I believe that I missed out on a huge patch of subs today. I saw them in the hunter region growing in some wood chips on the side of the road. I was waiting for a bus so I had limited time to I.D them but when I went back today they were all gone except for a few yellow stemmed mushrooms which I believe are Galerina?? I will keep my eye out though.
I would be extremely surprised if they were subs if you are hunting in the Hunter Vally.
Have another look in a week and post up some pictures if they are back.

Found a new patch today, pics soon. The story is that My mate got kicked out of our usual hunting grounds near the northern burbs of wollongong by an employee, walking out and around the corner I looked to my right and bam, there was a huge patch of subs. Mushrooms are truly smiling on us atm!!

Was in Sydney yesterday so I stopped off for a quick hunt before I drove home.
Only hunted for 10 minutes. The main patch had a few pins and mature subs but it was very dry in that area. There were plenty of in-actives in the same vicinity that were also very dry and dying off.
Still it is Mothers day and the official start of the season.
Fingers crossed we will get some more wet weather in the coming weeks.
Here are some pics of yesterdays finds:

hey all, long time reader of the forums, planning a camping/road trip down to the Blue Mountains soon, from SE QLD and am quite familiar with cubes. I'm very keen to go hunting for subs and am wondering if early June or late June would be a better time to go? Thanks

Both are good, whenever its wet but ignoring that fact I'd say late June.

it has been a bit dry lately, and all the little kiddies are climbing up the mountains to fetch their pale full,
why drive to canberra? are there none around you? are you 3 hours inland or just 3 hours south?
there will be some around just check BOM for places with the right temps, check bushy / scrub areas that aren't getting over 15 celcius in the day and not to far past 0 at night, canberra had a -4 a few days ago, and it was schockin.

You could say im between Albury and Canberra... I gotta find somewhere between there :/
Sounds like Tumut/Canberra would be a no go then?
I just thougt there because of all the nice big pine trees, which subs love!
What other tree's do they like?
Or would my chances be slim with the current conditions?
