Has anyone ever seen cubensis growing in the blue mountains area? I saw what looked liked cubes in some shit the other day, but I was hiking with my dad, and whilst we do have a fairly transparent relationship, I figured he would have difficulty understanding why his grown son was pawing through horse shit looking for hallucinogenic fungi. I've only ever ingested subs because that's all i've found, but I'd like to try cubes. I might scope the ones I saw out today and do some prints and take photos.

Hrm..yeah they do actually. Adjusting them now, looks a bit over saturated from the cloudy dark conditions.
Okay, all fixed?

There is a park near me with a lot of trees and pine needles and dead leaf matter all over the ground. Do subs grow in such an environment? There are a huge amount of pretty big mushrooms I don't know the name of (their stalk is white and has a disk on it, the top of the shroom is a pale yellow.) Also there are a lot of LBM's and some shrooms that looked like subs with no stalks.

Finally starting to find some in Northern Sydney area. Only 4 mature and a few pins though. Not in full swing here yet, but looking good for the next few weeks
Anyone else having any luck around Sydney yet? Or is all the action out in the mountains/west so far?
A couple of photos from today (sorry for the size, ive run out of room on this here shroomery):

Gymnopilus Junonius (90% sure). Lots of these around at the moment:

Happy hunting!

Did some more hunting tonight up in the mountains. Hehe
This season is looking really good!

By the way, I found a few of these white see-through maggots in a few of them. Are they going to be a problem?

You better dry those shrooms fast or the maggots will spread. You can also try separate the ones with maggots. PLEASE don't pull whole clusters of mushroms+mycelium out of the ground! Use some scissors or something..

Yeah I know about the whole "don't pull out mycelium", but accidents happen. That area was so wet that slight force would disturb everything. Anyway, that patch is like 4 square meters, it'll live. They're all dry now and looking good

I'd still check the stems for maggots if I were you. Squeeze them, if they are rock hard they fine, if they are hollow or still soft open em up.

Thanks ouijah,
By the way, that patch was about 70% pins. How long does it take them to grow into mature mushrooms?

hi shroomers! Obviously I'm new here. Just wanted to say this aussie part of the forum is awesome!! I have learned enough now to make my first hunt real soon just watching weather trends in the BM's. Myself and a mate are pretty keen to get some results. Will be sure to post on here for ID... there is so much experience and evry1 is so friendly on here. Have sampled BM's just north of Nowra a few years back and my mate come accross 'gold tops' near Lithgow as he was growing up. In the mean time I'll be walking my dog in various suburban parklands (west syd) in the remote hope of coming accross some early subs. We havn got a 4x4 tho or trail bikes, so i guess we will be trekkin it on foot when we go to the BM's.. prob Oberon area. Anyway just a prelim hello, and I know its a tall order.. but any1 keen on taking a new guy up and ******* *** *** ****** would be massively appreciated.. I would spot the fuel and grub.. snowflakes chance i know but no harm in asking.. ya never know..l8r

a friend told me that once the season kicks off subs will grow in any weather... it this true?
i was waiting for the max temps to drop below 17 degrees because i have to drive a couple of hours to find anything from where i live and dont want to waste $ on petrol because i have no $ =/

Yes it is to some extent. It really depends on how dry it is and where you are looking though. Some places it will still be damp even if it hasn't rained in weeks. If you have to drive far I would wait for rain though, otherwise you might not find many... You would have to consider the possibility of finding 1 or 2 mushrooms, and how that would make you feel after spending $20 on petrol and driving a couple of hours.

Made a modest find in the mountains a couple of weeks back. Plenty of tiny pins but unfortunately I haven't had time to check back on them. This weekend looks promising, if only I had time to go for a hunt. I think we'll start to see subs springing up in Sydney soon with all the wet weather we've been having. Spotted these in the north shore today while out for a lunchtime walk. Gymnopilus Junonius maybe?

Theyre definitely beginning to pop up in Sydney, just not in large numbers yet. Found another 4 individuals and some more pins today. Went to check on those gyms in the photo i took yesterday, but they had been picked! I think my area is over populated by shroomers.
I cant maximise your picture Fina (this site is really slow for me for some reason), but they do look like a Gymnopilus sp. from the thumbnail.
