Hey everyone, it's that time of year again!
So I thought I'd go for an early hunt, for the lulz - After a quick look around my usual hunting grounds I found maybe a handful of pins popping up and one mature specimen The season has started!
Pics - Please excuse the blurriness, I used my camera phone as someone forgot the memory card for the Canon

As with previous threads have a great season everyone, I am looking forward to seeing the regular hunters great pics over the next five months (Welcome back!), and of course welcome to all new NSW Hunters Please post your confirmed finds here, and plz try to keep your ID requests to a separate 'ID Request' thread Happy Hunting NSW!

my girlfriend just phoned and said she saw a heap of mushrooms at the local park come up.. brown tops with the caps that kind of go inverted and upwards and "frilly" underneath.. In saying that she's never had or seen real subs before..
But the description sounds a little promising, but im not getting my hopes up.
The weathers been pretty cold and rainy.. however advice i received off bluelight suggested that it's not cold enough yet and the days are still too long.
This will be my first season hunting, ill go down and take some photos after work!
Edit:
would it be correct to presume that i will only find subaeruginosa? are there other kinds of active mushrooms around.. say.. Inland NSW in the middle of syd and melb?

Found these at about 2000m elevation, up in mountainous region where the average max temp is about 7 - 9 degrees lower than further down, and average low temps are between 4 - 6 degrees lower. Really helps kick off the season early. Victoria should have these temps in Mountain areas too, if you have any near you with subtropical / alpine environments I would def be looking from now. In the cities it may take a month, month and a half for Subs to starting popping, still pretty high average temps.

Take some photos and make a new 'ID Request' thread in these hunting forums, that way you will get a ID quickly.
Ps. Subaeruginosa is the only active mushroom down south that I am aware of, Cubes and Cyans do pop up from Sydney upwards, but from watching the threads the Cube season seems to be coming to a close

There are some active Gymnopilus species around but they are uncommon.

Hey everyone I live on the gold coast and had some great hunts in the '09 summer season found some great cubes and meanies unfortunately I missed out on the '10 season as I'm in Canada for the season working and boarding. I won't be getting back till the end of may and then I head to jindabyne for a season working at perisher I'm having some withdrawals and would like to know if I can get any active mushrooms in the snowy mountain region between early June and early october. Thank you.

Hi enderley you will most certainly find active species within that area and timeframe. Your main target will be psilocybe subarueginosa, they fruit in native leaf litter and mulched garden beds, usually in a cool damp area after a few nights of rain and low temps. Local council parks and landscaped gardens are always a good place to start, as well as fire trails and hiking paths. Good luck.

There's a lot of non-actives on my walking trail thing I go on every morning. Been raining a lot. This is East Victoria. Good sign methinks.

No snow, I'd say at least 2 months away from snow fall way up high. Temps are still warm, I'll be heading back up there in the next two - three weeks to see how things are picking up

Congrats on your find there Sanchez. I hope you can feel the waves of jelousy emanating all the way from Ohio.

Thanks for the info Dr Sub great news to hear. It's usually quite a dry area but I'm definitely looking forward to see if I can find anything. I will have a look for cyans on the drive down as well, appreciate the response.
