The Real Truth about Sweat Lodges

1. Sweat from a lodge is no different than sweat from hard physical activity. No toxins or impurities are released; mostly water, some urea and salt. Pores are not cleansed any more than any other form of bathing.
2. If you believe you are having a 'spiritual experience' you are in the danger zone. Visions from prolonged exposure to extreme heat means that the brain is overheating - nothing more.

But, but... the extreme heat could bake the negativity right outta the brain.
You know negativity has a lower boiling point don't you?

Sweat from a lodge is no different than sweat from hard physical activity
Please substantiate, as this says different, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3224454
Quote:
The same body weight loss was induced by running exercise. Both sodium and chloride concentrations were much lower in the sweat induced by thermal exposure than that induced by the running exercise (p less than 0.01), while urea nitrogen and creatinine concentrations were significantly higher after thermal exposure than after the running exercise (p less than 0.01)

You and your article are correct about compositions, but my point was the oft-quoted 'getting rid of toxins' is nowhere to be found.
And the idea that excessive heat = inner knowledge or spiritual awakening is even more ludicrous - even if done in a teepee with a shaman and sage grass and rattles and stuff.

Yes, but the induction of fevers has been used to kill bacteria in the body, bacteria that secrete toxins. So there may be some truth to the statement that Sweat Lodges are good for the elimination of toxins from the body.

A healthy body handles bacteria just fine. An unhealthy body produces a fever on its own. Simple, right?
BTW, bacteria do not block spiritual experiences.

I believe that a sweat lodge can induce a spiritual experience. I prefer psychedelic drugs, but many cultures push their level of tolerating fasting and exposure to come closer to their spirituality or prove to a higher power what they are willing to do to please them.

I haven't done the sweat lodge thing, but I have had sickness caused fevers that were psychedelic.

I said 'temporary', dammit!
I was in a 10k foot race years ago in high temp and humidity where a seasoned runner got heat stroke. He didn't even know his own name. Can't go much higher than that unless you die.
