Terence McKenna was an absolute genius

I was so impressed with this snippet of a lecture that I just had to share it with you guise. Hopefully not too many have seen it. As you will see, it sort of cements a lot of my apparent idealism and near-insanity on this board.
I'm excited.

Well that certainly sounds good and I don't like to put a damper on the party because it sounds like a blast and I'd love it to be true but what also came to mind was his last interview when his brain cancer was pretty advanced and death was near and certain. (I hope I remember this correctly) The interviewer wanted to talk about these theories and TM stopped him and said I'm really not interested in those things right now. What interests me is that I'm having chocolate ice cream after this interview. Now he was pretty worn down at that point and I certainly don't blame him. But it's got to make you think.

TM has so many great vids out there it's truly amazing how one person can inspire so much. I view TM as a liver, rather then a preacher... although he had many spoken words and videos, I feel that his actions spoke louder then his words at times... he definitely helped mesh together my current understanding and interpretation of the world.
It's a bummer that he's gone... he didn't live too far from me and I would have loved to have a chat with him in person... but I think his death just magnifies his radiance even more for me now... the greatest message I got from him was to simply trust yourself. Take the raw data you're given, and just go with it... I esp. like how he always reaffirmed that he doesn't know anything more then joe schmoe... very diligent man indeed.

I agree this stuff is interesting and fun to ponder, but I sometimes wonder if people get far to caught up in it. Looking forward to when the "change" is going to happen, when the "shift of 2012" or whatever else is fine, but if you stop working on yourself now because you feel its better to wait for this big shift to happen you lose sight of the whole bigger purpose. This may or may not happen, and even if it does who's to say you will be around to witness it?
Forsaking the present to invent in the future is a waste of time, and just plain stupid - it's also how most people seem to go about life. If you want this change to happen, be that change. Be that change right here and right now, because that's all that exists.

i have listened to so many Mckenna lectures, i have collected almost every single bit of his audio talks. i also have all his books.
love him or hate him for his ideas, but no one can deny that he was a very eloquent speaker with some important things to say.

Not sure why but i never used to be much into McKenna, when i was looking to understand psychedelics i never considered many opinions about them but my own experience on psychedelics, but now i truly do love him to bits his words are beautiful, i only wish i had of gotten into him when i was younger as i would've been on that 5 grams in darkness a lot sooner!
I just find it a tad sad that the biggest proponent of psychedeic use famously died of a terribly painful brain cancer, nature tends to teach us lessons through the teachers you know... it's not something to just brush off, ignore & say was probably unrelated to his drug use.

Its only makes me think that he saw there wasn't much point pining over the future when you know you wont get to see it

I liked TM myself and really enjoyed his books. However he has no greater handle on the meaning of existence than you or I as far as I can tell. Another thing about that video is that he compared the chaos of today with the birth pangs, blood, and gore of a human birth that will herald a new age. Well frankly for those who are older or that really study history it becomes evident that our human world has always looked like that. It seem particularly relevant to us now, only because it's the only time we've been alive to witness it.
So while TM was a favorite read and a very good human imo, it would be difficult to logically draw any other conclusions about life in general. Unless of course you need to or want to. Just won't make it true.

In the video posted, he says to "embrace the uncertainty", referring to the mystery of this place. Other videos have him proposing that "no one is smarter than you are" and "you are the center of the mandala". His lectures indicate a wealth of experience and insight into 'what is going on' but I feel his propositions are an offered suggestion and by no means an attempt to be a scripture of some sort. He may not have had a better handle than you or I, but he was good at helping his listeners understand what it means to not have a handle on things.

Well I've never had a problem with what he's said in his writings. I have however had issue with what other readers of his work say he means or what is true about what he says.
