I also didn't include, all the machine rentals, and the phsyical therapy. THe PT was 25$ every time I went. I went 3 times a week. Got pretty draining financially. Thank god, my dad jumped in and helped.

immobilize it, try and keep weight off it and use alternating cold/heat and compression to assist with swelling and pain
walking with a broken hip? My ass. I've seen plenty of broken hips and trust me, i'd say 9/10 times you ain't walkin

It's been forever, two months now, and I FINALLY got my surgery scheduled. The doctor wants to know if I want an autograft (my tissue) or an allograft (cadaver tissue). Not sure what I want to do...

Hard decision. For your own, they'd have to remove it from somewhere else, which means extra cutting on you... But having dead guy tissue inserted in your body might seem off-putting for some.

I have Group health insurance...my mom is an administrator there, so we get super legit insurance.
it's about to run out though since my mom is moving to mexico....
I gotta get arthroscopic shoulder surgery in 9 days...and w/out insurance it would cost like $15,000, but I'm only gonna pay a few hundred

Originally found this forum looking for saliva drug test info, but I came across this thread and had to sign up. I feel for you man, I had the exact same injury...playing soccer in open field cut back on my left leg and popped inward, tore my MCL and tore my ACL right off. I was just getting my career started in pro-am indoor, and just like that, it was over. As far as autograft or allograft you have more of a risk of infection with allo - I had them take a piece of my hammy to sew it all back together (auto). Theres more physical therapy involved because you are actually going to be rehabbing that hamstring too if you do an auto..I'm not sure of any other benefits/downsides to either. It's almost been two years since my surgery, I work out my leg constantly now, and have attempted to play soccer about 1,000 fucking times. Each time it gets to a point where it just pops and I go down, it makes me so angry because I am/was an extremely active person like you. I have found though, if I strap that shit up in a snowboard I have no problems at all, guess its kind of locked in..so hopefully you ski AND board. I have talked to many people about this, and some have problems for the rest of their lives, some heal fine. Just depends on your body and the extent of the injury, I guess. Good luck to you man, I hope you have a decent surgeon. (Think mine sucked ass)
P.S. I had great insurance at the time, ended up paying around 9 grand in all - still affecting my credit. Watch out. Don't have a before picture, but this is right after.

Man I'm sorry I've read similar stories with hamstring autografts, they tend to 'stretch and sag' after time, causing slipping, as if it wasn't even there. This is the fear I'm worried about, except my doctor said he wouldn't do a hamstring autograft, he only does patellar autografts and Achilles allografts.

hey it could also be a bucket handle meniscus tear.
Thats nearly what i did, and the main issue with that is extending and bending. If you did that, it requires surgery. I just crushed mine, but it wasnt torn. It took for ever to heal.
damn longboards while drunk at night down a road with pot holes.

Sucks man. I tore my ACL, MCL and meniscus about 13 years ago skate boarding. I had surgery and the bill was about 25 Gs. My knee has never been the same since and I have had arthritis since I was 18. I've also torn the ligaments in my ankles and shoulder, but never had surgery and they are in better shape than my knee. I know tons of people who have done this though. It is not uncommon. I have a friend who tore his ACL and they used a cadaver Achilles tendon to replace it. Now he has a bomber right knee. I wish you the best of luck.

Surgery is in 2 days.
mnordic, what was more painful, the initial tear, and swelling after, or the surgery and pain management? Thanks for joining!
Legit, i'm doing the allo. The doctor does a lot of allos and a good allograft is better than a bad autograft, I figure at least.
I am fucking nervous though, I am not the greatest with pain. I won't cry and bitch too much, but It will have me in bed a lot and avoiding doing things I normally enjoy doing. I wonder how I'll water my garden lol.
