American soldiers

Are they american heroes or people who make money serving the governement/america, or a desire to take the money, college payment, training, and all the other enticements to "serve" in the military? I see a commercial about the "heroes" that lost limbs to IMDS and donate money. What is the view of american soldiers and obama now in the world?

I don't think they are all heroes. It kind of diminishes the whole idea of hero. I also think that they are doing an important job and getting paid for it at the rate they agreed to, which is not all that high.

American soldiers are cowards with a penchant for murder. We should fire 95% of them.

Few I would consider heros. If they do it for the perks and money then they're mercenaries no matter what kind of patriotic spin they put on it.

I thought they do it also to feel immortal and because it is a shield against death anxiety.

That's not the subject of this discussion.

Sure, as long as we don't switch him out for Sarah Palin.

I don't think I could classify all servicemen as heroes, but I do hold the majority in high regard. It really upsets me to see some of the crimes committed abroad by our soldiers though, and while you cannot hold a whole nation responsible for the actions of a few...its really hard for me to hold the individuals in such situations any more accountable than those who ordered them there.
The only people who like our military are those allied nations who happened to have a major earthquake. Everyone else hates us.
