when do you case your tubs ?? i have tried a few tubs cased @ begining of spawn run...it just colonized..did great. tried a few uncased..pin set looked great..then alot of aborts.the non cased subs seem to have thin skin layer..it peels. now my current tubs,i waited for knots..then sprinkled 1/4 inch  50/50 coir -verm and seems to be working nice.. also i did scratch off top layer of early cased sub and got my best second flush..

A little more details please. Are you using multispore. How big is your monotub if thats what it is and what was your spawn ratio for each of these different tubs. Were you using grains??

Unless you count coir as self-casing, I don't case.
If you do, then I do it when I build the tub, which is how I case a species that requires it.

I think of wax paper as a sort of casing layer, and I apply that when I expose the tub to fruiting conditions.

My general policy: hands off.

Excuse the intrusion.

Keeping in fashion of what I'v learned from the BRF tek, I case cubensis substrates (if I decide to case) as soon as the substrate's introduced into fruiting conditions.

You don't need to case cubensis substrates when your climate is dialed in correctly.

Then you don't need to case bro. I've never done it. I layer my spawn and sub when putting it in the tub but that's it. I've tried the wax paper before and didn't really notice a big difference so i leave it out. Your flushes are always going to vary. Sometimes the second flush is bigger than the 1st or 3rd and vice versa.

This is where cloning comes in. Agar is cheaper and easier than it seems, it's the next step.

If you are casing, go with peat + lime instead of coir. I've tried them side by side and the coir overcolonizes too much to be an effective casing layer. But casing with cubensis is really pointless IMO. Well it does help in harvesting by not tearing up the substrate as much, but that's about all.

crumple waxpaper

lay on top of substrate.

rise humidity at substrate level.

After pins are set, do you just let it lay/stay there?
