Half-Assed grow - will it fail?

So this is a half-assed grow that I'm doing mainly out of curiosity to see if it'll survive. Of course, if I get good healthy shroomies I will be happy lol. I'm using a ziploc freezer bag and the PF TEK method. I steam sterilized the ziploc for 45 minutes. Last grow I had, I sterilized my jars for 1.1 hrs and didn't get any contams. Do you think this will fail? Elaborate in the thread please!
PS: I still used all the recommended sanitary techniques as in wiping down everything with rubbing alcohol and lysol, wearing gloves, having clean clothes, hair, and body.

This is an extremely undetailed post from which to judge if your grow will fail. However, if your question is "can I pull off brf in a ziplock bag"- the answer is yes it is possible.
Good luck.

do the 3x steam sterilizing, from what i understand its supposed to be foolproof. and damn easy. keep one of the ziplocks uninjected for a constant. see what happens. good luck buddy! hope all goes well!

What details do you need?

Aren't the freezer bags 1 gallon bags? If it's full, that's gonna fail big time. Contams will overrun it before the myc hits 100% or the myc will never hit 100%. The reason pint jars are discouraged is because they rarely hit 100% colonization due to the size/shape.
I guess if you're kneading the bag once in a while you stand a chance at having it finish up, but I dunno. Keep us posted either way.

I've heard this so often, it just doesn't pan out like people think it will. Scale your spores and inoculation sites as you scale your substrate and you don't have anything to worry about. I think the error in logic is that people think linearly, while mycelium actually spreads exponentially. When I do cakes I use both 1/2 pints and full pints, inoculate at the same time- the pints finish about 1 week after the half pints.
And you can take that to the bank.

Yeah, I'm not trying to be a know-it-all, I know some people get lucky with pints on occasion, but RR and other TC's frequently discourage them for a reason. Personally I can't attest to pint jars working or not, just echoing what many experienced cultivators have said a million times.

I just go with what the experiments say- hearsay is no good no matter who it comes from.
I didn't mean to come off as know it all either lol, just sharing my experience in testing old logic.

I put 5 half-pint jars (2.5 pint) worth in the ziploc. It's definitely not full. I got extra large ziploc freezer bags which I think are a gallon. It's only about 1/4 full because I don't want to waste much stuff in case it fails even though it's inexpensive. I can add more detail if I'm missing something..

On the detail thing I was just making the point that we have no idea about you exact method- so the closest thing we could say is if it would work in theory. And to that end, the answer is yes.

The main problem is going to be keeping the BRF loose. It'll probably be compacted into an impenetrable blob, so the mycelium won't colonize quickly or well. That's one of the reasons RR discourages big jars, the substrate compacts at the bottom. You gotta keep it loose and fluffy, hard to do in a bag.

Ya it would be hard to keep it loose. Probably gonna take quite a while to colonize. Any idea on how to loosen it up?

It's just a bad idea overall, I can't imagine a way to keep it fluffy in a ziplok bag honestly. Good luck with it though.
