So I have some decent genetics ( white rhino,GHSC), and id like to cultivate outdoors this season, in upstate NY if it helps.
I have a perfect place surrounded by thorny plants, I plan on chopping a space about 10 feet into the brush, enough for 5 plants or so. It is facing the south side of a hill. I wanna transplant them t ten gallon buckets. Should I mulch the top of the bucket after placing?
Id like to start them inside around early april. Will the 6500k cfl from my terrarium be sufficient for the first 3 or 4 weeks of vegetation until I transfer them outside in early may? Are there other additives you would recommend using if price is no option?
If they are outside in early may, when would you expect to harvest?

Someone i know used to use cfl's to do the whole cyle indoors cfl's will work fine to get them started, and 6500k is perfect for veg on your plant. As for your other question I'm not familiar with outdoor to much so I'm no help there. If it helps though my buddy who mess's with outdoor usually just bury's a bag of fox farm per plant and just plant it inside the bag.

Yes CFL will work and the biggest problem is intensity. Watch their growth. If it isn't compact add more lighting.
Putting them outside in containers adds to the likely hood they will be spotted and will restrict root growth and lower harvest. Put them in the ground. How early you plant them doesn't deternime harvest the light cycle does. I would guess you would harvest late august early september with an 8-9 week strain 8 doubt you can run over about 10 weeks outside unless you could cover the plants. Getting them started early extends your growing season and allows you to start with established plants. More growth = bigger harvest.

I agree. Plus pots can overheat in the sun. I'd suggest digging a good sized hole into the ground and perhaps filling it with potting soil. Don't forget to mulch.
Deer could be a problem, and unfortunately the best way to stop them is with a conspicuous fence/cage. Deer usually don't prefer cannabis in summer, but they will graze seedlings.
Also, grouping plants together is a sure-fire way to get ripped off. If you scatter individual plants, your odds of success increase. The worst feeling you could have is to come back to find your hard work was for nothing because somebody found your plot. It's better to lose 1 or 2 rather than all 5.
For NY your going to have to flower almost until October. Bud-rot can be a problem if September is cold and rainy. If possible I'd strive for the shortest flowering strain.
