Jute Twine Grow Log

After reading a post by RogerRabbit (that I can't seem to find anymore) suggesting that jute twine can also be used instead of hemp twine as a fruiting substrate, I decided to give it a shot, mainly as an experiment.
I picked up some jute twine at a local discount store, three rolls for $1.50. The roll I used is forest green (not pictured).

12/2 - A small roll of jute twine was soaked for 24 hours in a mixture of water, along with a teaspoon of gypsum and a small amount of freshly brewed coffee (enough to give the water a slight golden tinge)
12/3 - The jute twine roll was removed from soaking and excess water was removed by squeezing to field capacity. The twine roll was placed into a cocktail sauce jar, the lid of which had a 1/4" hole stuffed with polyfill. The lid was covered with foil and the jar was pressure cooked at 15 PSI for 90 minutes.
After allowing the jar to cool, the cocktail jar was placed inside a glovebox alongside a master jar containing loosened rye grass seed spawn. After performing a G2G transfer, the cocktail jar was removed and allowed to sit on a shelf for colonizaton.
12/14 - The jute twine roll is approximately 80% colonized. Strong rhizomorphic growth is evident as the mycelium colonizes and begins to consume the jute twine. Fluffy mycelium reaches out from spawn stuck to the edge of the jar, and once it touches the twine it quickly takes root and begins sending out rhizomorphic growth.
One of the strands is the thickest rhizo I have personally seen to date, it almost looks like a lightning bolt shooting downward:

12/24 - The jute twine roll is 100% colonized. Beginning consolidation week.
1/13 - Was unable to birth until today due to family stuff. Jute twine has been consolidating for 20 days, about 13 days too long but hopefully not too much of an issue. The extra time to digest the twine is probably a good thing anyways.
Here's what the jar looked like just before birthing:
And here's what the twine looks like fully colonized, after removing from the jar and before cleaning it up. I find it interesting that the dark forest green colour seems to have faded to a light brown.

The excess spawn and mycelium was carefully removed, the twine was rinsed under cold running tap water and then placed underwater for a dunk.
1/14 - Today the jute twine was removed after dunking for 23 hours, rolled in sterile vermiculite and placed into my shotgun fruiting chamber.

Will post an update with pics when pins are spotted.

Very cool! I've seen myc routinely eat food coloring in agar, so I'm not surprised to hear that it ate up your twine dye.
Keep us posted!

No pins yet, expecting some in a day or two though.
I'll post an update with pics when pins are spotted.

Unfortunately, yes.
Pins never developed on the jute twine that I was using. I have another couple rolls of twine and intend to try the experiment again some day, when I do I'll post an update in this thread.
Just got some new strains (B+, Brazil, Cambodian and Golden Mammoth), perhaps one of them will like jute better than GT.
