Easy, fast casing ?

My friend just created his first casing, 50/50 +, with 2 pf cakes a few days ago. He was under the impression that you covered with foil and put back in incubation chamber, now he re-read the faq and is under the impression that he puts it in his grow chamber covered with foil.....is this correct? Sorry for such a stupid question but the SHROOMERY ROCKS

Cased PF cakes can be re-incubated for a few days.. with alum foil ontop.
if you had mixed it with straw/poop it creates it's own heat . then no need to incubate.
but in your case.. incubate until you see mycelium poke thru and then fruit.

ok, thats what he though and is doing, he just got confused, he crumbled 2 cakes and substrate is about 3 inches with 3/4 inches of 50/50 on it, it has been a week and no signes of mycelum pushing through, how long does it usually take?

Depends on the thickness on top.
Usually keep it fairly thin, takes less time.
If your top layer is 3/4 inch think.. and it's been a week, should be any day now.
I'd suggest 1/2 inch at the most. even less would be ok. ( faster )

more than likely, yes just take something like a butter knive and wipe it with some rubbing alcohol to sterilize it and scrap some of the top off. That should do the trick, anyone else have a better idea?

If it's already on, and it's been a whole week.. don't fuck with it. If it's not contamed, leave it be.. but next time.

Alright, last night mycelium poked through so he patched..... how do you guys keep your humidity right in your casing chamber? Is spraying the walls 2-3 times a day enough, he has perilite, should he use a little of that also? thanks....

Not a huge concern.
If you have perlite and water on the bottom of your bin, ( don't bring the water level up to the top of the perlite, 1/2 way is all you need.. 1 inch of perlite, 1/2 inch of water... )
Misting might not even be needed at all. as long as you fan you should be ok.
Casings don't require as much humidity as cakes.

BTW,.. your casings can be exposed to cake conditions.. you might have fat stems, but if your casing is a small one, you don't want it drying out too fast.
with a big ie: 3 gal casing.. this is not as much of a problem as it hold more water to sustain itself.
