Growth with cakes?

So my friend has a rubbermaid container with 4 cakes sitting on perlite. 2 of the cakes are creeper and 2 are hulanta. Now before my friend had left the cakes right on the perlite, which had I guess water logged the cakes, because the mycelium growth on the hulanta cakes was getting a little insane, growing out as far as a inch. So he rested the cakes on tin foil. But now the problem is there still seems to be no signs of pinning which I understand he will just have to wait, the time will come, but the creeper cakes seem to have little to no growth.
My thought is they might be dryed out, sence when the cakes were birthed the top of the cake sat on the perlite to then later be fliped over to have the top sitting up right. But when this was done the cake was covered in perlitle, and he did not want to scrape if off the cake in fear of damaging the cake. Now he worrys that mabye the perlite sucked the water out of the cake? Is that possible?
Also the hulanta cakes I can tell are in more than perfect health, but he is getting alot of growth which we thought at first were pins, but now that doesnt seem to be the case. They started out looking like a line growing off, then they took form of a tumb tac, looking just like a baby mushroom, and finally the top started to grow more pin looking things. Now I know that they arent pins and im not asking when are my cakes going to pin, I just want to know what this growth is, anyone know?

What are your temps and rh levels??? A little cooler might help. but that can depend ....

temps jump from as high as 81 to as low as 70 in his apartment. humidity he has no gague but I would say RH is fine.

Did u dunk and refridgerate for 24 hours?
