fair enough, it's just strange to see infrastructure being built so fast while people are still in such bad shape

i mean we couldn't even get people out of the superdome or to stop looting:shrug:

There was not a single case of looting through out all this, speaks volumes about the people they got over there.

Yeah Japanese culture is all about keeping people in submission through shame and guilt - but it works. Last time I checked they had something like 1.1 robberies per 100,000 people and the us was around 233. It might actually help that they are so homogeneous in population - I think black people have a (morally) easier time stealing from mexican or white people and visa versa...

damn dude why you gotta insult my intelligence?

sorry my first response to seeing the before and after pic of that road wasn't "OMG you guys look how awesomely fast they are at fixing shit!1!!!"

all i was trying to say is it seems strange that they are so quick to start repairing roads while the disaster isn't even over yet. to my uneducated mind it seems that to fix that road in what, 4 days, would take a lot of man-power.  last i heard there were still thousands of people missing. everyone there seems like they just want things to get back to normal, which is completely understandable, but this seemed like a bit much.

i guess they are just more efficient than we are, rebuilding a road really fast after an earthquake, tsunami, volcano, and nuclear disaster, more props to 'em

some people fix roads... others look for the dead... others handle nuclear meltdowns.... while still others operate grocery stores. its not like everyone in the country jumps to whatever someone thinks is most important. people that have skills apply their skills to what their skills need to be applied to. if a road is fucked up then the road is going to get fixed. if there was no road the country's infrastructure shuts down. shit has to keep going. the contractor and all the workers still need money. people need roads. people need food. blah blah blah. didn't mean to offend... but come on.

And its not like this is the first time Japan has gotten fucked up by a Tsunami or Earthquake.. I'm sure they know much better what needs to be done than any of us do.

like i said, i don't know where this road is or how important it is, maybe the good half wasn't enough, who knows

i was only pointing out i thought it was strange to repair scuh a fucked up road so fast.

that's why the picture was posted anyway right?

i guess i would say strange, some would say impressive

Breaking things and fixing them is supposedly good for the economy according to mainstream economics didn't you know?

PS; here is a chart thingy my friend sent me.

Visualizations : Deaths per TWh by energy sources

This just goes to show the power of media hysteria.

Similar to how more people die of bee stings than terrorists.

Trust me, I do.  I'm more interested in what her guests are saying.  She doesn't know a nuclear plant from a garbage can.

Do you visit the link I posted underneath the video?  I think that's far more telling.

i don't know all the details but workers aren't able to come in close contact with atleast one reactor, and so they're having to resort to flying helicopters and dropping water down onto the reactor to keep it cool.

basically the most current information says their workers are working as hard as they can to do all they can to prevent a meltdown. the cooling systems are down on a few of the reactors so they workers are pumping seawater/other shit in the cooling systems to keep the reactors cool so no more radiation will become exposed.

that's about all anyone really knows at this point, at least from what i understand.

oh and fearmongers/conspiracy theorists are going crazy right now preparing for a worldwide nuclear fallout, so if you're into conspiracies and over reacting to a situation before you know what's really going on then commence to freakout now.

i saw today that jap is planning on sending in a "clean up crew" to the reactors, but everyone is outraged and calling it a suicide mission.
