I won tickets to a private screening of Battle For LA tonight.
    #14097990 - 03/10/11 01:46 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

The local radio station does these giveaways for different movies and I'll be seeing an advanced screening tonight.  I wasn't really looking forward to seeing it, but hey, I won't turn down a free movie hosted by the morning show guys.  It seems like every new horror/thriller/action movie tries to be unique and bring something different to the screen.  With this movie it's that loud buzzing sound the aliens make.  Yeah, it's creepy, but only because it sounds like a horde of bees.  In all honesty I'd be more scared of a horde of bees than an army of aliens firing lasers at me.

I'll let you know how it is...

It sucked.  Total war movie where man who got his troops killed must rise up and lead more.  Every time someone died he gave that, "not another soldier" speech.

It absolutely was.  Not as bad as Blair Witch though...  The coolest part was where you first see the aliens.  Everyone thinks meteors are hitting the coasts but they were only detected 4 hours before impact.  Then the marines are being deployed and briefed on the situation and the guy's like, "They're slowing down before they hit the water...  Thermal scan reveals these things are mechanical...  This isn't a meteor shower, this is an invasion."  Then you see the news broadcast focus on the water and you start seeing the figures walking out onto the beach and blasting the shit out of people.  Other than that it just drags on and on and on....

I had no idea the dude that played Harvey Dent in The Dark Knight was the main character.  There are a lot of other cameos too.  It was more war story and less alien, that's my gripe.  I wanna know more about the aliens: where they came from, their biology, etc.  They tell you why they're invading, and they learn how to kill them, but it just feels so cheap for all the hype it's getting.

In my neck of the woods there's a commercial during every break and it's all anyone's talking about at work.

Guess it depends on what channel you watch?  I've seen about 500 ads for it on tv.
