eh.. its ok, but not as easy to prep, as you have to do a little more measuring..
with a brick of coir, you can just add some verm and a gallon of boiling water in a bucket, cover, and thats pretty much it..
i dont think you would have any issues with it, though, as long as you just prepped it to field capacity.. i just like the simplicity of bricks..
plus, at $3 bucks per brick (sometimes 3 for $6) at your local hydro shop, its nice, cheap, small, and doesnt look suspicious to your neighbors, as opposed to dragging in a bag that looks like dirt.. lol..

Well the advantages to losing loose coir, as in the coco HUSK? Yeah, your shit will look healthier, grow faster, fruit better, bigger. Coco coir in the brick didn't work well for me, got contammed and grew very slow even though I was anal with the ratios I used. Coco husk is where it's AT bro, they LOVE it

i would LOVE to see some proof of that.. a brick will get loose when you prep it..

then you did something wrong.. lol.. sterile procedure, substrate too dry/too wet, etc etc etc..
the following if from a wiki article
Quote:
Coir is a natural fibre extracted from the husk of coconut and used in products such as floor mats, doormats, brushes, mattresses etc. Technically coir is the fibrous material found between the hard, internal shell and the outer coat of a coconut. Other uses of brown coir (made from ripe coconut) are in upholstery padding, sacking and horticulture. White coir is harvested from unripe coconuts, and is used for making finer brushes, string, rope and fishing nets.
coir is the husk..

Where are you obtaining this loose coco husk? Are you picking it off a coconut tree outside your house or some shit??/ I don't even know where I could obtain loose coir round these parts.

^^^^ I would really wait to see actual proof of this, before resorting to it.. bricks work fine, but as for loose coir making them grow better...... well, that just sounds like bullshit..
show us a controlled grow showing that this is true, wizz...

I did not realize that grow shops would have loose coir.... And yes I did know that its popular for cannabis cultivation, I just thought they would have the bricks only for some reason.
ARE WE NOT TALKING ABOUT THE SAME DAMN THING HERE.... ONE IS JUST COMPRESSED? Correct me if i'm wrong. This loose coir is the same exact shit right? Its not from another part of the coconut or anything like that right?

You want me to show you a picture of one of the EMPTY six tanks I just got pounds out of? Because they're all coco husk, I only used the brick coir for one of them and it hasn't even flushed yet

like i said.. you must be prepping the brick wrong.. flat out.. you have no scientific backup to make a statement saying that loose coir grows better than a brick.. they are the same thing.. one is just expanded..
you can deny it all you want.. doesnt bug me.. if loose coir works for you, then use it.. but dont start telling people that loose coir is different and somehow better than its COMPRESSED counterpart, because that is simply not true, and you must be preparing your brick incorrectly.. period..

^^^^ they same shit.. where do you think they get coir from? please do a lil more research before spouting those "facts".. lol.. no offense.. we are all here to help eachother in this hobby..
I will bet you a spore syringe that if you prepped a brick like everyone else here does (and succeeds with), you will get the same growth.. unless you are using multispore inoculation, then it wont matter, because each different culture may or may not perform well..
like i said.. ill bet you a syringe that if you do it right, it will work fine, and just as well.. no one else here has a problem with it
