First oyster grow

Pf tek on BRF.

Are these mature? When should I harvest for spore printing and cloning? How do you spore print a mushroom with such an odd shape? I don't know why the long stems, I read longer stems, less cap is do to poor FAE but they are almost completely out in the fresh air and I fan/mist almost every hour.

Those look ready to harvest now.  Just cut the stem off to print just like you would any mushroom.

And yes they have long stems because they need more air.  Even having them sit in the open indoors is often not enough air.  Unless you can keep them by an open window or something.  Oysters are much easier to grow outside but the little cakes won't work well since they will just dry out.  I think if you want to grow oysters on cakes you're going to be stuck with fairly underwhelming results overall.

I don't I had a mishap with my LC syringe and thought it would be better to just grow a few cakes, find a good looking one and clone with agar. Once I clone/ get print i'm going to do rye to straw.

Any tips on sterility for cloning printing?

Use a glove box. I get near perfect results with mine.

Thank you. I will be using a glovebox but i'm worried about the finese needed to tweeze mycellium from the stipe. My glovebox has heavy duty gloves that are a pain to manipulate.

Do I need to sterilize the scalpel/tweezers between each agar jar and piece of mycellium pulled out?

My first glovebox design had heavy gloves as well. I soon got sick of
dealing with them for things that need finesse and cut them off from
the inside so 3-4" was left hanging inside but you could stick your
arms through it.Preload your GB, give it a spray with your favorite
air cleaner and then put on your latex gloves, tyvek wrist sleeves
and rub down with 70% iso before starting your work.

You can sterilize your instruments in between each transfer if you
would like, but remember alcohol based air cleaners + fire = No good.
If you use water or a water bleach mix (10%) to clean the air inside
your GB you can get away from the possibility of explosions or fire.

Transfer tissue to as many plates as you can spare to start, and then
transfer oyster mycelium away from any contaminates that may appear.
Once you have cleaned the culture up you are ready to go to grain, or
perhaps a culture slant for long term storage.

Very stately oysters! That last pick shows some healthier fruits. They are certainly ready to be harvested. I would say yes, do sterilize your instruments between every transfer. This is the general rule, though there is some room to flex.

I decided to hack up my glovebox before trying to clone. The gloves were just too thick to be able to manuver like I needed to. Glad I did. This is what I ended up using. Ghetto but all I had to go on since it was a last minute decision.

I taped up some trash bags to make "sleeves" to cover what would have been exposed arm and then taped them to the holes in my glovebox.

These are the steps I took.

I preloaded my agar jars into my glovebox and sprayed at 10% bleach solution then some lysol and closed the lid.

I put on disposable gloves and washed down with alchohol.

I sterilized the blade cut a healthy looking oyster and wiped it down with alchohol.

I flame sterilized again, then brought the oyster in one arm hole and the blade in the other.

I cut the stipe in half, cut out a tiny piece of tissue, speared it lifted the agar lid a bit and tossed it in and closed.

I brought one arm out and reflamed, brought it back in and repeated.

I ended up with these.

These are the pieces left over from the cloning. Are these useless? Doesn't sound like they could be used for anything since they were wiped down with alchohol.

Looking good, keep a close eye on things over the next few days as
you may have to transfer away from any contaminates that made there
way onto the agar.

I know the glovebox is pretty lame but do you think it's good enough for this to maybe work?lol

All things considered you should be able to get a clean culture.

And as for the leftover chunks from cloning? Trash them?

I personally would not eat them after being sprayed down with ISO.
Trashing them would be your best bet IMO.

I use a box simpler than that and it works fine.

I'm having trouble getting a spore print. I'm printing 5 caps and it looks like only 2 are dropping spores and those two aren't prints. Theres so much moisture under the cap is just a milky liquid.

I've had an issue with this in the past, too. Put your oysters on chicken wire laid horizontally and supported an inch or two above tin foil. You can either close your box or use wax paper to make a lid to allow the mushrooms to breathe. This should protect against intense sweating.
