mycelium reacting negatively?
    #14097099 - 03/10/11 10:44 AM (12 years, 11 months ago)

Is there any avidence showing mycelium reacting negatively to temperature flactuations? The temperature in my room isn't constant, sometimes it's 25C at other times it drops down to 20C, the casing seems ok for now but i still wonder if suffers?

Also how about flactuating light supply? The lamp is not on the timer so i give it irregular lighting, any suggestions?

Thanks

youre not really being clear.. but ill try..

when it comes to temp, just leave the cultures at room temp.. its cold in my house, and my jars are at 40% after 9 days from spore inoculation.. they will be fine..

as for "the casing", if you mean the casing LAYER, then no.. no problems.. but if you are using the term "casing" to describe the substrate and everything, then again, nah.. I doubt the temp will have that big of an impact.. some, but not enough to kill your grow..

about the light, i have no clue, as i have never given any of my grows anything but 12/12 light cycles.. im sure one of the other guys (or girls) can shed some insight on that one..

is there a particular issue you are having? do you have any pics?

I dont think you have much to worry about. I had temperatures go down to 30F on a casing and it still fruited wonderfully.
Of course the better conditions, the better it will grow.

You should have a stable light.
But then again, you dont "need" light.

while this is true, light GREATLY helps, and apparently is good for jars growing mycelium, as well..

Thanks Yosha,

I'm talking about the casing batch inside my FC that's almost fully colonized, it's got humidifyer hooked up to it so it's getting fresh humid air and light when i'm home but the temperature is changing because my small electric heater has got its own sensor inside of it so the temperature goes up and down and i wonder if this can affect the mycelia growth in any way, outdoors the temperature changes all the time so maybe it's ok if there is a 5-7 degree difference from time to time? And in regards to light, someone said cubes need just couple of hours of light and so why does everybody give them 12 hours? is it necessary or simply a matter of convenience?

You will be fine. Just take care of your casing the best you can.
Put light on when you can, and the temps will be alright.

word up to that..

just relax, keep up what you are doing, and they will fruit when they are ready..

im just wondering, as I have never looked this up.. but will 24 hours of light be bad? i have just never even thought about it.. then you can just leave the light on..

either that, or go to your local cheap-ass store, and buy a $5 timer.. that is the best solution.. lol.. they dont cost shit..

Ive never tried a light for 24hrs, but I had luck with no light at all unless I was misting/fanning.
A timer is cheap and will be what ya need.

Temps should be good.. far as light goes, they'll be a lot more dense if you give it a natural light cycle by a window with a supplemental 6500k cfl.. I'm finding that out now.. my tubs with just a cfl are consistently putting out less than the ones in a window with cfl supplement.. drastically less.. the ones by the window get fatter and are super dense!  When the sun is still low on the horizon, it's not gonna damage your crop.. take advantage.
