No... Quite the opposite actually when I have episodes.

What are you experiencing? Just freaky nightmares?

What makes them so scary? how much do you even remember?

Seconded.

By haunted, you mean you have constant nightmares? Look into lucid dreaming, overcome those fears in your dreams.

Yeah I feel the same way...

But then again, I have funny reactions to my dreams. I have really fucked-up dreams sometimes but I never, like, wake up in a cold sweat or have night terrors or anything. I just wake up calmly at the time I'd normally wake up, reflect on my dreams, and notice that they were actually pretty fucked.

God I hate jail dreams, though it does feel amazing to wake up from them.

I used to have this recurring nightmare where I'd be going about daily life like usual, but I'd notice that my teeth felt unusually loose. Eventually I'd be hit in the face with a cupboard door or something, and they'd all just spill out all over the floor, and I'd be like "FUCK!" (or however it sounds to say that without teeth).

Then I wake up, thank God I still have my teeth, and proceed to lose my teeth. And the cycle repeats itself indefinitely.

That shit seriously fucked with my head, I'd have to check myself when I woke up for real.

Yes, this has happened to me at certain periods.

For a long time, I have not remembered my dreams.

It is not healthy, but some sleep meds or sedatives can inhibit dreaming/dream-recall. I would advise that sort of strategy only for emergency where you HAVE to sleep, but are too stressed to relax etc...

(However if you use any sedative for this purpose too often, it will become habit forming, in a way)

Is this following a traumatic event?

i have nightmares pretty much every night, but i still love getting sleep. mine are usually along the lines of fucked up shit that has happened to me that i dont have to experience in my daily life anymore due to repression. however, i cant avoid the junk when im sleeping. the dreams feel very real and often feels like i am half awake during them.

They say tooth dreams represents a subconscious concern over your health. Then again, I think lots of dream interpretation is bullshit.

I've had super fucked up dreams that I react to with no fear, like being led through a hall of highly HIGHLY deformed people (baby faces on old men with arms growing from their torsos, mangled arms, missing jaw pieces with giant lolling tongues, and tons of other stuff only a dreaming mind can create)

In the dream, I was most concerned with looking them in the eye, and not making them feel marginalized by their handicap. I woke up like, "weird..."

Then I had a relatively normal dream where this weird humanoid cat screeched my name right before I woke up, and that shit left me feeling gross as fuck, just hearing my name repeated in that voice while I tried to go back to sleep, even though the rest of the dream was all nonsense, and the cat thing wasn't all that creepy.

Somebody told me that it represents a fear of "losing face" in the eyes of your community/peers. It makes sense, because I've always had high levels of social anxiety.

That said, I've also heard that it just happens because you're grinding your teeth in your sleep, and that shoe also happens to fit.

dreams are definitely a reflection of my waking life. Whenever I am floating in a dream, or when im rollerblading... Its always during a part in my life where I feel stable and Im going in the right direction. Like Im gliding through life with little effort. On the opposite side of the spectrum, I have dreams where Im constantly lost, or trying to find something... and they occur during times of turmoil. Being chased is usually a reflection of insecurity or when you are running away from a problem in your waking life.

lol. yeah, I have had some very "obvious symbolism" type dreams too It's cool when you can figure your own shit out.

In my dreams driving is often a sign of control, and being a passenger a lack thereof. Or so it would seem.

Here's to hoping you overcome your anxieties.  If not, turn it around and make use of it: write about them, make stories of your dreams.  Shit, I'm always game for a good story.

I had many fucked up driving dreams while I was suffering from PTSD from two severe accidents. Losing control and driving right into the trees.. just like what really happened. but unlike my dreams, I was the passenger in the real accident.

Dreams are intriguing. I hold them in a similar regard as I do psychedelics; they're both images created from within my mind that I have little influence over. They also share a few more nifty characteristics: both can induce out-of-body experiences, alter perception of time, and in both you have a chance at facing your own death. Dreams don't give me the kind of introspection that psychedelics do, but I try to give them value in some way. I'll do my best to imagine the details in the morning that made it a unique dream, because there is always something kind of quirky in my dreams that makes me feel almost as if I have a repressed creative side, even if it's just in my subconscious .

Ever try melatonin? It's a great natural sleep aide, but it also has the tendency to cause vivid memorable dreams, and can sometimes trigger lucid dreaming. It's not at all useful if you're already experiencing vivid nightmares though...

The best thing to do to stop dreams from happening, or at least from being able to remember them, is weed. It puts you in a deeper level of sleep than the one where dreams occur at, and consequently you can enjoy a distraction free night. This almost always works for me, but even though I smoke weed every night before bed on the rare occasion I'll have a vivid memorable dream... Never anything bad though . Maybe you should give it a try .

Also, for all you oneironauts out there (it's what self-proclaimed dream explorers refer to themselves as ), there's an herb from Mexico called Calea Zacatechichi that causes incredibly vivid, realistic, memorable dreams, and can also induce lucid dreaming. It also happens to be the most putrid, bitter stuff I've ever ingested, enough to cause nausea. I consider myself to have a pretty high tolerance for hot/bitter/spicy/sour foods, but with this stuff I can't even choke a small cup of tea down without puking. The indigenous tradition was to smoke a joint of it while drinking a mug of tea right before bed. Supposedly the medicine men did this to discover the specifics of a person's illness or to locate missing people that came to them in their dreams. I have had very vivid, long-lasting, realistic dreams after drinking this (it's more tolerable to drink when you add lots of honey), but they're usually dreams of me doing things that would happen throughout an average day. Upon waking the next morning I'll sometimes find myself wondering if what I did happened during a dream or if it was something I did in reality, it can be quite a mindfuck. It's worth a try if you're interested in enhancing your dreams though .

It means you watch way too much "Worlds Wildest Police Chases."

I've occasionally had dreams I woke up from and got up out of bed just because they were so unnerving.

Yeah but only if ive recently had a HORRIFIC waking up in a cold sweat nightmare...sometimes more than one in a row for that matter.

Im not talking ex gf, jail, fights with family, losing teeth type shit...that stuff doesnt bother me....the ones that bother me are the ones that involve aliens, mutants, demons, black magick, people trying to murder me, getting told that if im killed in the dream Ill never wake up...stuff that's real horror show...not reality TV stuff.

My nightmares are more like Hellraiser, Aliens, Child's Play or the Necronomicon than Locked Up or Jerry Springer.
Shit that scares me so bad Ill stay up for days on end.
