I suppose that you're going to tell us that Forbes has a liberal bent also?

http://blogs.wsj.com/independentstreet/2008/08/19/study-lots-of-small-companies-not-paying-income-taxes/

Here's another "liberal" website talking about how many SMALL businesses don't pay any income tax either (article from 2008).

Quote:

A Government Accountability Office study, which relied on corporate income tax data from the Internal Revenue Service, found that 72% of all foreign corporations and 55% of all U.S. corporations paid no federal income taxes in at least one year between 1998 and 2005. During that same time period, 57% of foreign corporations and 42% of U.S. corporations paid no federal income taxes for two or more years, the GAO found.

no but you're certainly going to post the slanty bits, seems that if a
company makes no money in the US they dont pay US taxes, Hmmmm, seems some
are eligible for bailout funds as well even though they made billions overseas

http://money.cnn.com/2010/04/16/news/companies/ge_7000_tax_returns/
Quote:

GE had plenty of earnings last year -- just not in the United States. For tax purposes, the company's U.S. operations lost $408 million, while its international businesses netted a $10.8 billion profit.

GE isn't the only "Top 5" company on this year's Fortune 500 list that owed no income taxes. Bank of America (BAC, Fortune 500), which suffered major losses in 2009, included a tax benefit of $1.9 billion in its annual profit.

"That's one way of escaping taxes," said Scott Hodge, president of the Tax Foundation. "Companies get to deduct their losses, so if there's no earnings, then they pay no income tax."

But GE isn't exactly escaping all tax-related pain: The company paid almost $23 billion in taxes to governments around the world from 2000 to 2009, Eisele said.

Corporations purposefully set up tax shelters and overseas divisions in countries with lower corporate tax rates for the purposes of avoiding paying taxes in the US.

I don't see how you can deny the fuckeduped-ness of GE being owed a billion dollars by the government rather than paying any taxes. They have operations in this country, why shouldn't they pay any taxes?

For the life of me, I will never understand why so many middle/lower class people defend the super rich with all their might. Is it because you think you might have a shot at becoming a billionaire someday? Keep dreaming, pris.

absolutely they do and it's all perfectly legal under the tax code because
the way it works, if you dont earn anything in the US you have no tax
liability, the same goes for individuals... if you're not liking the
system then do all you can to change it but dont bitch when it back fires
and bites you in the ass

while I dont believe in getting more back than is paid in, it also happens
on the individual level as well, so this isnt just for the corporations,
it also works for us, in fact the vast majority of us receive more back in
taxes than we paid in through our checks and instead of paying a little in
taxes, we pay no taxes and still get a little extra, instead of $800 like
you and I would recieve, they get billions, sure it's not fair but hey,
I'm not dealing with billions in revenues on my personal income

if a business hasnt made a profit in their US operations should they be
required to pay, if you dont make anything this year, should you be
required to pay anyway?
