yeast in the bottles
    #14092816 - 03/09/11 02:18 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

just bottled a few gallons of cider into 12oz beer bottles, and I went ghetto with this project so I had no real way of effectively removing most of the yeast. Will the excess yeast leftover in the bottles effect the cider at all?

easiest way to get separate the two is to prop the bottles at a slight angle
so the yeast settles to an edge and then take a small piece of tubing and
syphon it to the bottle you'll be using to keep it in or use the champagne
method, cap the bottles, turn them upside down to sit and let the yeast
settle to the cap, invert them up and remove the caps and yeast then recap
the bottles... one of the reasons I like the bail top bottles

the left over yeast will cloud the cyder and can be a little off putting to
some but it shouldnt have any other real effect other than drinking bits of
yeast

does the yeast have a taste, or is it just the texture? Do you think ill have success just pouring the cider into a glass and stopping right before the yeast gets poured?

id have to have to re bottle, guess ill just try one and see.

I think you can repour to a glass, just start slowly so it's not drawing a lot of air and disturbing the yeast

the yeast is really an aesthetic/giblet issue, it'll have pretty much the same flavor as the cider

try hiring a riddler (lol).

Yeast will not effect the cider. Champagne goes through the same process, the yeast is removed by freezing the necks in saline solution and removing the frozen yeast plug at the mouth of the bottle. Precipitation of yeast is normal in any internally fermented liquid over time.
