This, sir, fits neither criteria.
"Classic" is like sugarhill. Or Run DMC or the fat boys or some shit. Curtis Blow. UTFO.
(oh shit, I'm giving away my age. haha)
Even THE FRESH PRINCE was "classic" old school rap.
Will Smith, regardless of how jiggy the man has gotten, is not.
On the other hand, Kool Moe Dee (sp?) wrote a classic rap song by the same name. Wow, I almost forgot the extent of my useless trivia.

The Chronic Intro and Outro are the best tracks on the Chronic.

To further qualify my previous statement (yeah, I'm that bored and OCD)... I posit that Will Smith came along during the "neo-classical" or "pre-modern" rap era.
The non-violent alternative to shit like Biggie Smalls. (who may be OG, but is not "old school" to most of us over 18)
Teenage will smith, however, was definitely a classical period rapper as The Fresh Prince.
Interesting... never really considered this, but I guess this is early evidence that will smith was into film. heh
But this was like my fucking JAM when I was about 5.

You have to give it up for the old school kings, though. They paved the road for ALL these bitches, IMO.

Thanks. Glad it's appreciated.
Rap is actually not my genre of choice anymore, but it is the first music I really got into (about 25 years ago, when I was like 5. haha) so I have been following the evolution of hip hop for a while.
Interesting stuff.

-------------------- I know exactly what you mean. Let me tell you why you're here. You're here because you know something. What you know you can't explain, but you feel it. You've felt it your entire life, that there's something wrong with the world. You don't know what it is, but it's there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad. It is this feeling that has brought you to me. Do you know what I'm talking about?

I've always liked dre. I like the way he puts his beats and lyrics together. IDK, I've always liked rap for some reason.
