gravitational disturbance
    #1409362 - 03/25/03 06:01 PM (14 years, 4 months ago)

Hello! I had a dream that a friend had his FIRST cake all ready to go and completely encased in lovely white mycelium. He put it into a growing chamber and carefully followed the steps to induce fruiting. Soon, large caramel fruit began to grow. The problem- they were all coming out of the bottom of the cake. I guess he put it in backwards and had some 'shroom upside down cake. DOH!
There were 5-8 large fruit, but they did not look anywhere near ready to seperate the cap yet. If I have this dream again, do you think I should tell him to turn it over, or mot to disturb it and let it run its course?
Thanks in advance,
Z

well you might want him to do some psycho analysis on his dream and see if he has the cakes on straight perlite. he might use a lid to cut down the humidification factor so they stop coming out of the bottom! too much vermiculite in the dragons experience has taught him to scrape some of it off and make sure it doesnt get wet cause it will abort and then one must pick them off and mess with it. i wouldnt bother flipping. maybe put some sterlized clean and moist vermiculite on top. PF calls that the double ended casing tek... fyi. the dragon is still young, but he has learned a few thing from the dragon masters.

Don't worry about it.  :smirk:  My friend finds that placing PF-Cakes on top of the perlite actually helps to induce pinning (The bottom of the cake absorbs some of the water from the perlite).  Usually nothing drastic happens because of this, infact, like I said before, my friend finds it to be very helpful.

Yeah, I'd say to make a launchpad or putting a little damp vermeculite on top of your cakes to induce pinning on top and bottom. Basically just like a casing, only smaller
